Hi Guys,

I'm moving a question I did...

Question: Is it OK to chat about prices in this forum?

I'm shocked how expensive Fender guitars are here in Chile. I just calculated I could buy a American Standar in the US, bring it to Chile with a forwarder company, pay ALL taxes and still it will cost like 3/4 of the retail price at Fender Chile.

Is it the same thing in other places?

i think it would be quite interesting for somebody from each country to state the cheapest price they can get an american standard strat for. no mates rates or special offer deals, flat price, whats the cheapest your can find in your country ?

id suggest to keep it easy, the guitar we should price up is a 2012 American standard strat, black with maple fingerboard. should be easy enough to find.

also, as we all know the US will get them cheapest, convert your countries price to $ for comparison.

cheapest i can find is 1,012 GBP in the UK = $1587.84

I've been reading the rules, but couldn't find anything this kind of topics.

In the meanwhile,

I'm not sure if there's cheapest way to get the strat here, but this is the official dealer price:

They don't have the maple fingerboard on stock, so I will go with the rosewood black AS strat (011-0400-706)

http://www.fender.cl/index.php?option=c ... ratocaster®-american-standard&Itemid=153

Chilean $$ 1.197.900 = USD 2.482 all taxes included.

Wow, that's pricy. I beat that in seconds: for example, MusicRoom are asking £779 / $1220.

http://www.musicroom.com/se/id_no/07026 ... ?kbid=1582

Plenty of others in the same range.

Significantly more than in the US, obviously. That's what 3000 miles of ocean does.

Cheers - C

Yours is a 2011 model the 2012 model is £1,019. £1,012 seems to be the UK market price.

The going price in Ontario, Canada for an American Standard Strat is $1,100.00, which is about the same in US funds.

Don't think so. Actually it is impressive in the UK it cost almost USD 1.000 less than Chile.

How come?!

Or am I missing something?

This shop has 10% off at several models. This is a black RW.
http://www.4sound.no/itempg.aspx?id=722523&artno=191652
The price there is 8881 NKr that means about USD 1466,53 This is in fact ,to be in Norway, very cheap. I would say this is more 'the norm' : http://www.myhrbraaten.no/gitar/elektri ... maple-neck
That is 10295 NKr =1700,02 USD -and I still find these prices better than I remembered....
I guess the price is about shipping and prices......

I want to make my point here:

For example, this Bogner New Yorker head here:

http://www.prosound.cl/catalogo/product ... ts_id=2413
(878.000 with 19% IVA)

Chilean$ 737.815 = USD 1.529

Fender American Standar Strato

http://www.fender.cl/index.php?option=c ... ratocaster®-american-standard&Itemid=153
(1.197.000 with 19% IVA)

Chilean$ 1.006.638 = USD 2.086

Wow - I think Norway (which I live) is regarded one of the worlds most expensive countries - but Chile seems to be WAY over the hill. Someone is earning 'good' money down there

Chile has a 19% IVA ( Value Added ) Tax on imported goods plus other Taxes which may be applicable since instruments are Luxury Items...

Much of this is about Politics, but I would wager that since US and Chile relations are not so warm and cuddly, imported US Goods get taxed more than others..

Hi 53magnatone,

Just like VAT, it is not only on imported goods, but on every commercial transaction. Also, in taxes terms guitars are not Luxury items.

Sorry but where did you hear that?

Relations between both countries are OK and actually is quite the opposite, there is a free trade agreement, so imported goods that are made in the states does not pay taxes related with that.

That was why I mentioned the Bogner thing. Most of the US equipment here is sell on List prices before taxes, my question is why Fender products aren't.

I'm the proud owner of a beautiful 2011 American Standar Telecaster that I brought in LA last year. I was thinking to get another one, but as I stated before, is too big the difference, so I prefere to wait untill the next trip (I hope there will be another one!)

In November 2011 my LEE RANALDO JAZZMASTER cost $1400 in the US Retailers, and here in South Africa the Fender Dealers wanted to charge me $4000+. So no doubt I imported from the US and it cost all in all (with SHIPPING/TAX/DUTIES) $2000. I believe FENDER EUROPE distribute to most other countries outside of the US and that could be where the price hike happens.
