Fender Heavy Picks: new ones feel heavier in weight

Hey Everyone,

I've been playing Fender heavy 351 Classic Celluloid picks (shell colored) for the past 10 years.

I've noticed in the past few months that the heavy picks that I buy new, feel heavier than the original. The new picks also appear to be a darker shade.

Even though the new picks may be the same thickness, they feel more dense and heavy than the originals. This definitely impacts my speed; I can't play as fast.

Does anyone else notice that the new picks feeling heavier? I really love picks, and hope that they can be returned to the original specs.

I have a bucket full of all sizes and thickness.
Mine look as usual, but, when did you notice the difference?
Maybe a new OEM supplier = China? Indonesia? Korea?

I used to use Fender medium gauge picks, but now I've started using Dunlap "Max-Grip" picks. (.88MM). They come in various gauges and will not slip. Seems odd to get excited about a pick, but these are worth looking into.

It's affecting your playing? Really?
There's so many picks out there. If you can't find something else that suits you,you're not really trying mate.

Agree. Try some penny/nickle/dime/quarter coin picks
But, gotta say, some picks just feel right.

I don't think Uncle Sam's too worried.
These were taken out of circulation long ago.
They're 90% silver, worth a bit more than 50c.

Boxbang I officially admire you..anyone who has a glut of picks is my hero,,between my pick eating chihuahua and the sinister pick stealing thief that constantly breaks into my house and steals my picks..I can NOT envision a glut of picks..I wouldnt have that if I bought a stinkin semi load of them!
P.S. Said Chihuahua's Name is Tequila..it causes me great delight to post things like.."Taking Tequila to go pick the grandkids up at the school bus" etc..haha

The best picks I've found come from a local music shop, they have their name on them and for me are just right, really heavy and tight.

Might I add that i feel it's rude and ill mannered to go into an establishment that sells musical instruments and not buy something? I too have a rather large collection of picks that have, and probably will, never been used. I've got picks stashed in places i've forgotten. It''s like Christmas morning when I discover stuff I "put away for safe keeping".
