I found this one that he did not too long ago. It looks like he's using an iMac :

I'm sure that he would help you out with any questions if you
ask him via private message here.

Good luck!

OP, I suggest going to the Apple store with your Mac-Pro and booking a couple of sessions with an Apple Genius. There are quite a few who record music, but most importantly they can show you how to use Garage band as an actual Recording Studio. Not the Basic Garage Band that opens up when you click the icon but You can get inside Garage Band and use it as you would in an actual 64 track studio.

+1

Some artists have done complete albums using GB. Erykah Badu is
a recent one that I know of.

Guitar Center was giving free Saturday morning seminars on Garage Band. There were four separate classes, so it took and month to do all of them. It was free. I'm not sure if they are still doing them or not.

And it should work with a line in. Just plug your amp's output jack (for headphones) into your mic in jack.

I have owned several PCs over the years all of which sucked at one time or many others. All of them eventually ended up with corrupted hard drives which meant I had to rebuild once again. Most of the IT guys I know at work, who fix PC problems all day long, own macs for thier personal us and some even use them for work.

One of the guys has been using the same mac for over 10 years now and doesn't see a need to buy a new one yet. I wish I could say the same for the many PCs I've had to retire over the last 10 years. Overpriced and overrated? I think not.

Seems like Buxom is on the wrong track here : Beatles are not overrated , neither is the Mac. I have the same experiences as Arc-n-spark about that. But I agree - there is quite a lot of money, but is all worth it

Agreed, I've had this macbook for almost 4 years now and it's still running like the day I got it, which is a lot more than I can say for some PC's Ive had, the only thing wrong is I have a negative bar down my screen because I dropped it down the stairs and damaged something in the hinge.

Now lets tread carefully lads, from my experience this topic can escalate faster than a religious argument

The OP can learn GarageBand, but his wanting to overlap
video performances is the tricky thing here, IMO.

I checked out GB for a couple of minutes yesterday - and it has a media browser which allows you to open up a film directly into GB. I guess - if you are recording to a clic-track while shooting video in Quick Time , you can import it to GB and dub your sound there.....IMHO

Agreed Snow so I will let my experience with Macs stand on it's own. Nuff said.

The uninformed post should have simply been ignored. Thankfully, most have stayed on topic.

I have Logic Express, which can open Garage Band projects, but many times I find it easier to lay down a quick recording with Garage Band when inspiration strikes. If I need to take the recording further, I can always import it into LE and go from there.
To the OP, as it's been mentioned by others, start with a good microphone to record your acoustic guitar. Good ones can be had at a fairly low price if you check Craigslist often.

I would also recommend recording with a metronome (through your headphones only) to keep your tempo consistent. That makes it a lot easier to add digital instruments later- loops, MIDI or whatever. Everything you add after the initial recording will be able to sync with your real instrument tracks.
I hope that helps!
