I'm late to the thread because I am watching too much of the Olympics. Great show and great opening ceremony. The announcers here on US telivision did a good job of explaining what the show was about. As an engineer, I can understand the tremendous contribution Great Britain has made to the world and it was great to see it showcased. Thanks for accepting the tremendous responsibility for putting on such a show and I hope you all are rewarded for the sacrifice.

PS I loved the molten steel part of the ceremony where they turned it into the rings. Awesome.

Cambo, I'm glad it's not just Brits that understood it... I thought it was great when they put the inventor of the internet, Tim Berners-Lee, on. What did the commentators say about Rowan Atkinson? I don't know if he is successful and known over the pond or not, but I thought he was hilarious!

Good day for the Brits today couple of cycling golds, Mens pursuit ( world record) and the Womans keirin.... (Mmmm) Victoria Pendleton what a cracking race that was don't see the point of the motorcycle to lead that race for the distance it does though, just let them go for it

Fantastic day! Pendleton was absolutely incredible, what an unreal turn of pace she has, blown away. The mens team were devastating also.

Shout out to Andy Murrey too, knocking out Djokovic in straight sets, breaking him to love in the last game. Wow.

What more needs to be said about Jessica Ennis, putting in a first day performance like she has under this amount of pressure is astounding, hopefully she goes into tomorrow flying.

What a day!

Yesterday was incredible!

You have to say though that those Koreans were taking fantastic penalties, even the Germans would be proud.

Yep they put them away eh, always nervous somehow when I see a left footer come up to take a penalty and also trying to beat the goolkeeper before he even kicks the ball with the stop start run up

The stop start run up is the worst thing that has ever been invented for penalties, they fail so often, I'd much rather see them put their laces through it.

But on to today, I'm hoping Murrey can win a double tennis gold, if he does I think it could give him the confidence to go on and win the US Open as well. Gotta feel sorry for him though, beat Djokovic and you have to go and beat Federer

But I honestly think the last two days have been the best days of british sport I have ever seen, just fantastic.

Yeah hope Andy Murray has a great game, never seen him as happy as he did winning the mixed doubles semi I think that might be the chance for a Gold but I'll be hitting every shot with him against Federer.............C'mon Andy

Yeah, fingers crosses he can do it this time :D The football was not reffed well-the koreans should have been down to ten men from the 40th minute for that second foul by their captain. He was playing a bad game-I saw so many fouls by him that the ref did not, the commentators agreed he should have been sent off. And why did they make ramsey take the second penalty? I'm sure he's a great player, but his first was not good, and he then had the nerves of having to try and think of something different to do to surprise the keeper. The keeper was more confident because he knew Ramsey better... Doesn't make sense... GB kept creating chances that were so close, and then missing them. I think overall Korea played well, they deserved the win but no more than GB did. Either could have finished it during extra time... Oh well. It was pointless anyway-the winner (korea) has to play Brazil next... So they will most likely be then playing Honduras in the bronze medal match (because Korea are unlikely to beat Brazil). And Honduras are looking really good-any team that plays with and nearly beats Brazil is a good team. Good luck to Korea, but I think it may not go their way... :D

Fabulous day yesterday, Murray in two finals today... yadda yadda.

That's all fine and more power to all their elbows. But I think you people may be missing one very crucial point, perhaps the most important thing about the entire Olympic games.

The synchronised swimming begins today. Oh yeah. 8)

Cheers guys - C

Murray! Yeah! Finally, he's won something! Another gold for GB as well, cementing our 3rd place overall :D Hopefully this will give him the confidence to go and win the grand slams, we'll find out in a few weeks with the US Open

Murrey that was fantastic, he's just beaten the world number 1 and 2 in straight sets. I can feel a Grand Slam in his sights.
