Here are some questions for the guitar builders here. Can you give me some pros and cons to the 1, 2 and 3 piece bodies? Does it matter if the wood is alder or swamp ash when building a 1, 2 or 3 piece? What I mean is like... Ex: swamp ash is OK if it's two piece but not alder.

Thanks

Arc

The amount of pieces in the body only matters if you are going to have a transparent finish, and then only if the wood grain patterns don't match well. The wood type and density matter, not much else.

A greater number of pieces in the body is said by some to provide the body with a more "average" overall wood density and hardness for the given species of wood. The fewer the number of pieces the more likely different pieces of wood having different specific attributes are said to be given the opportunity to make a difference in weight, feel and (controversially) tone.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
