I personally really like my Dunlop Moonshine Ceramic slide. I love the tone you can get out of it. http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/moonsh ... mic-slides

I've gone through a hundred of them it seems (not really).

Metal slides have the advantage of not breaking, but most of the time I prefer the tone of glass slides. I have a really nice hand blown thick glass slide which sounds fantastic! I also have a Jet Slide (which is really different and cool) and a ceramic tone bar from Rocky Mountain Slides to use with my lapsteel. I really like that ceramic tone bar, I'll probably end up ordering a regular slide from them too someday.

I have the usual suspects, chrome and glass. But last week I bought the Dunlop 285 Eric Sardinas model. This is the best one I tried so far. :D

I haven't thought of ceramic ones.....sounds nice. I' ve got both glass and steel , but for the time I use only one out os brass. Think it has a more 'glassy' tone than steel. Still a bit more clear sound than glass. I better try out one of the ceramics.... :!: to compare
Edit: Not steel-chrome

I use (and I use the term "play" lightly) a coricedin bottle (Glass), got it 30 years ago, when you could still get em.

I use a lot of different things but one of my favorites is a Mudslide, it's like the Moonshine.
I have a bunch that I cut from booze bottles, and I usually use a deep socket on my metal body resonator.

I used an old CO2 cartridge for a bit.

I have a few Coricidin bottles and two Rocky Mountain slides that are ceramic.

my favorite is a dunlop brass. when i first got it i didn't like it very much, and i noticed it scratching real easy... then i found out it had a coating on it. i stuck it in a drill press, sanded the coating off, went from 220 grit to 600 grit, whipped out the jeweler's rouge, then some trucker's chrome polish and brought it to a high, mirror shine.

yeah... now it's my favorite, especially on the dobro. great, nasty tone, and a really nice bite. 8)

I have always used a common Dunlop tempered glass slide. I did try steel once and didn't like it. I've never tried ceramic though. I guess I just grabbed a clear glass slide years and years ago, and stuck with it.

Ceramic slides have a porcelain finish. It's a nice balance between steel and glass. Also the inside is porous on mine so it absorbs sweat and keeps your finger pretty dry.
