Right, because your taste in music is the correct one and it applies to everyone!

I hardly listen to metal (of any sort) these days, but I still get a kick out of some of the older thrash that I grew up listeng to. Part of the fun was the intense energy at the shows, check out this crowd.

This is all quite funny  why is everyone so sensitive around here?........
a kid posted some distasteful lyrics..... but you would think the adults would be a little more thick skinned and realize " hey its just a kid" I have no problems with anyone here but some of you older gentlemen need to chill out a bit. I understand there was a major tragedy, but this honestly had nothing to do with it. A bored youngin decided to share something he likes, even if it was distasteful it was not intended to be malicious.

also I think it is rather lame to criticize an entire genera due to the fact you dont care for it, I dont like country music but I am not about to trash the genera for that  have you seen some of those lyrics? also ridiculous and mindless.........
personally I do not care for this music either, but I still respect it for being what it is.

you should all take a step back and relax a bit.

at least he posted about music and not some far fetched fantasy about a gift from a famous musician

This has nothing to do with being old or how thick someone's skin is. Why does anyone really have to post some dumbass lyrics geared toward some 12 year old prepubescent let alone any lyrics at all unless you wrote them yourself and are looking for some criticism. There's plenty of other sites for the gore lyrics. This whole thread is ridiculous and it had nothing to do with the shootings in Co. Myself, I don't care for violent lyrics or music. These horseholes need to look back and take a look and listen to some Alice Cooper. At least he had some artistic value as well as musicians who can actually play their instruments.

About 90% of the responses have been negative and balloonknot still doesn't get the hint.

corpseknot, your lyrics are cohesive and you should continue writing. They reminded me of this band:
Amon Amarth - Death In Fire

+1
Nothing wrong with liking a certain kind of music, and the reality is that these are the kind of lyrics that go with it.

Sorry , could not resist to comment on this one. Klowenst , I have heard your playing-you are quite good. I'm a bit older than you , and has always been open to new music . This kind of music has existed for some years-heard a lot of it , but I can't dig it. Thank God people have different taste- that makes room for everybody :) This video ( yes , I watched it through ) is not the worst example I could imagine - but I really don't like that kind of cohesion we can see here. Here it is so obvious that human beings are herd animals and do whatever the leader says. And I hate that fact. I could never act like they do - no joy into it- just plain stupidity, IMHO
Cheers

...but I also think it's a fact that the music we were exposed to as teenagers , will follow us for the rest of our lives. I watched a Sex Pistols gig in -77? Already to old for that(20) . I was formed into progmusic after my love for Beatles. The Pistols was just ridiculous to me- since I was into artists that really could play. Although later , I can enjoy the Pistols for their energy....

First off, thank you for the compliment on my playing. I have a long way to go, but I love trying to come up with original ideas. Still hoping to take lessons one day.

You know I don't play metal, and I don't even listen to metal these days, but I did grow up listening to that kind of music and it inspired me to play guitar in the first place. I guess it is nostalgic for me at this point and when I read the lyrics in the OP, I wanted to encourage it because it reminded me of real bands and not garbage.

I see what you mean about the video and the herd animal aspect of it after watching it again. The reason I posted it was because I remember being in crowds like that and it was fun and exciting as a fan of the band. The energy of the crowd was the main point, but the guitar solo was pretty cool too. :P

It's nice to hear someone open minded like yourself. There are lots of music genres I don't enjoy but I try not to completely shut them off without giving individual bands a chance.

My problem with death metal is that it has become trite. Every song sounds the same, same cookie-cutter riffs, same cookie-cutter lyrics, and every human being on the planet sounds exactly the same when making that ridiculous death growling noise. I find goth metal and doom metal much more interesting, although they are starting to get a bit derivative as well.

<3 Doom metal, particularly stoner doom

Also, as far as death metal, it definitely hit its high point with Gorguts' "Obscura". That album is simply perfect.

I will give you death and doom metal heads a gift. This song is 5,000 times "harder" than anything any death metal artist has ever done. Listen carefully. I played and sang this song for my daughter (and to my daughter), she's only just turned 7, and she started balling (crying), because she got it (she didn't like "how I was acting" as I sang it), and it is POWERFUL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xORf6opWlY.

Lyrics:

"Faded From The Winter"

Daddy's ghost behind you
Sleeping dog beside you
You're a poem of mystery
You're the prayer inside me

Spoken words like moonlight
You're the voice that I like

Needlework and seedlings
In the way you're walking
To me from the timbers
Faded from the winter

Now look up Sam Beam and "Iron & Wine," start with his first 2 records, "The Sea & the Rhythmn" and "The Creek Drank the Cradle," which were demos he made by himself in his bedroom that SubPop released basically unchanged because they #$@*&!% RULE.

See also "Jezebel" and "Upwards Over the Mountain" (play this one for your mom) and "The Sea & the Rhythmn" (the song). And "The Trapeze Swinger"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8aPyBr-_S0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qQud0kRpOQ

The world is becoming filled, literally, with people literally saying, "I used to listen to metal and death metal and then I found Sam Beam and now I have a new guitar hero."

Start here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Kh09MuI ... re=related

<3 Iron & Wine, they're playing the Newport Folk Festival this year but I couldn't get a ticket :(

Also, I'm not sure if you're actually familiar with the genres, but death and doom metal are two VERY different things. Basically all they have in common is distorted guitars and the word "metal". For examples of death metal, check out that band I already posted, Gorguts. Maybe not the album Obscura, since it very well may be one of the most difficult to digest albums I've ever heard, but still, give 'em a listen. Doom metal on the other hand is a completely different beast. While death is fast and violent, doom focuses on extremely slow tempos and themes of depression, despair, and, well, doom. Black Sabbath is in fact considered the first doom metal band, and the entire genre is sometimes considered mass-Sabbath-worship. Instead of sweep picking, arpeggios, etc., the riffs tend to be much chunkier, thicker riffs built around 1 finger chords in tunings ranging from drop D to drop B (sometimes A, though due to the challenges that presents in the guitar itself, this is rare). On side-note, doom is one of three genres that are largely interchangeable, and often combine and fuse, the other two being sludge and stoner.

Here's a few doom/sludge/stoner songs to check out, if anyone's interested

Kyuss - Green Machine [stoner] (they're considered to be literally the first stoner metal band ever)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTIh3T9RHIc&hd=1

Melvins - Anaconda [sludge] (often considered THE first sludge band, also my favorite band of all time)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_1c26bqvDM

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath [doom] (inarguably first doom metal band ever. Also, most of this board loves them.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsR_eQc7_cA&hd=1

Eyehategod - Dopesick Jam [sludge] (perfectly understandable if the name offends)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btZW1xNG-UQ&hd=1

Acid King - Evil Satan [stoner-doom] (singer is now married to Dale Crover, drummer of Melvins. Also, people who like Sabbath will dig these guys. Also, no, it is not "HURR SATAN IS AWESUM GAZ" metal. Just ignore the name of the song.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqHDb-hOSPA

Iron Monkey - Bad Year [sludge] (WARNING: abrasive as s***, albeit great, vocals. Sad note, the singer suffered a fatal heart attack in 2002, may he rest in abrasive, sludgy noise.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U64zgPFuGSQ

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone [stoner-doom/stoner-sludge] (THE stoner-doom band)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4cjP8IF ... 5m20s&hd=1

Torche - Healer [stoner-sludge] (Stoner-sludge with poppy vocals and melodies. They call themselves stoner-pop and stoner-bubblegum. Anyone that likes power pop melodies will love these guys.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7uokNi7qEw

Bongzilla - Greenthumb [stoner-sludge] (these guys love weed. A lot.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=956kleNxJas

Sleep - The Druid [doom/stoner-doom] (These guys are considered the ultimate stoner-doom band for a good reason. Not this song, no, but you'll see. Again, Sabbath fans will love 'em.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOXuh67H4yU&hd=1 (there's also a version someone made where they tuned it down 10 steps. It's funny.)

And finally, the ultimate doom/stoner-doom song, the absolute magnum-opus of the genre, the defining work of the entirety of doom metal...

Sleep - Dopesmoker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dZFH2M_9VY&hd=1

This 63 minute behemoth took the band over 4 years to compose and record, and even longer to be released in it's intended form. Upon submitting the finished album to their then-label, London Records, Sleep was told that the album would not be released in it's current form. The label had it remixed and reedited, however the band refused to have it released in any edited form, leading to a deadlock between the label and the band. This edited version is believed to be the unauthorized version released by Rise Above/The Music Cartel Records under the title Jerusalem. This version runs 11 minutes shorter than the original recording, and is split into 9 parts. In 2003, the original album was finally released on Tee Pee Records, and just a few months ago, Southern Lord Records released a remaster of this version. The Southern Lord release (linked above) is the closest version to date to the band's vision for the song.

Cheers.

When I tried to submit that post, the forum had logged me out and I thought I had lost the post. Now, it may not look like it, but that took me roughly an hour and a half to write, mainly looking for good quality vids, deciding most-accesible songs, etc.

Thank god it went through alright
