I just read the lifetime warranty on Fender guitars. Now to be eligible you must save you sales slip. Ok. The electronics and all the metal parts, all the parts that ain't wood are warranted for 1 year. Ok. The finish isn't warranted against chipping or cracking. The wood is not warranted against swelling, shrinking or cracking. That pretty much leaves workmanship. Has anyone ever owned a guitar for ten years than noticed the neck didn't fit and claimed warranty? Do I need to retain the sales slip other than for insurance purposes? The warranty seems smoke and mirrors if you look at it

Point taken. The warranty was meant to cover manufactural defects, mistakes or oversights made during production, not whatever the instrument is subjected to after it leaves the factory.
