Arjay you were reading my mind. I often marvel at how some people ever got a recording contract, when there are much more talented people playing dives night after night.

I agree with your comments inregards to Dylan and Kristofferson however I strongly disagree with Willie..he has a terrible voice I will grant you that..but he writes incredible songs with really cool blends of chords etc..my opinion..sometime people just have that intangible "it" you can not define but you know it when you hear it..
Maybe its just me but in certain moods Willie makes me smile..okay Im done with that rant lol!

His whole professional life he's thrown out avante garde statements. These deliberately controversial yet ambiguous remarks have cast him as a "deep intellectual" to those who have chosen to be, "disenfranchised". Ergo, this bolsters his marketability. He knows exactly what he's doing.

FWIW, I do like some of his stuff but he's surely not 'pedestal material'.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Regarding the 3 above mentioned ' singers' - I agree about their poor ability to match the tones  But those same 3 can do something more important : they can perform! They can deliver the lyrics in a way that hits you!!! They engage the audience! And they make , as said before, GOOD songs!
PS! I'm no big fan of eithermof them  But I definitly recon them as great artists!

What and empty proposition. Because in the end, that which you have created is not really yours, it was the creation or inspiration of some other enditity. So you have created nothing of you own. Your just a puppet......And when its over you spend eternity in darkness.

Asgeriman,

My original post made no assumptions. Just an observation and question. My last post was a hypothetical. [If this is true, then...]

Do not confuse my posts with Violins. I made no statement with regards the Illuminati.

Dylans comment was interesting, thats all, quite interesting to me anyway. So who was Dylan talking about?

OL

Ok-perhaps a bit hasty conclusions.Sorry if it hurt  It just seemed to be that way. I can also question things like heaven and hell and society and conspiracies -but in the end I think everyone ( at least in the western world) has a fair chance of being successful. But , nowadays , it seems like the youngsters are more into being famous than to really DO/ make something worth being famous for..... Of course,as we know, everybody can not make it that way. But I don't think any Illuminati or something is a part of it.
What did Dylan say ? You're sure that this is not a fake - like dubbed?

No problem. Personally I think he is speaking as the ever elusive poet and storyteller. I do not think he made an actual "pact" with the Devil. He has worked hard to get were he is, and perhaps not a superlative vocalist, but more folksy in style like Willie Nelson, and at the least a great songwriter.

However, this topic of "deals" with "darkness" crops up from time to time in the world of the arts. Robert Johnson et. al. And my post about the potential "deal" being hollow. One might gain fame and fortune, but thats it! and your creations are not even your own but inspired by some other being. A deal well suited to the narcissist. However, in end you would loose big time. [see The 1980's film "Crossroads"] And so it is said: "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and loose his soul"

Agreed, being famous should be a by-product of creating something meaningful and not an ends to itself. I don't watch much TV these days but from time to time I eat in a resturant that has the GAC Channel (Great American Country) on its TV feed. I cannot stand to watch it. Hollow lyrics and the same old worn out musical phrases. GQ guys singing to Vogue Girls. Heck, if the electric fan broke they could not film a female vocalist video. It is required evidently to stand in front of a fan and let the wind blow your hair for every Female Country? Video. I don't know what GAC is but it ain't country!

Dylan sings fantastic , compared to him I am working with nowadays  He thinks he is singing, but it's more like rap. He is an excellent lyricist , and a good drummer - so it kind of works. Imagine a kind of Rage Against the Machine in a folksy way  Riffs and chord progressions .

Yes I've seen that movie. It's a famous theme. And I despise in general those who offers their soul to gain money and fame. There are lots of examples of people who does that in real life , without being supernatural. But of course , many artists love that superstitious angling and stories :)

Hence the million dollar-country- thing, I can't really stand it, though much country music has some nerve that I have LEARNED to like :)
