My favourite desert is the Thar Desert in the far west of India, out towards the Pakistan border (not my photo):



Once, when I was a lot younger, I hired camels and a couple of camel drivers and crossed the Thar Desert from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur. It took eleven days - because I made the elementary mistake of agreeing to pay my crew by the day, and they were able to string the journey out and make it take longer than it really needed to. Frankly, I'd have died out there pretty quickly without their knowhow, so there wasn't much choice but put up with their time-wasting. On the plus side, it's one of the all-time king-hell most fabulous things I've ever done, so time delays weren't such a bad thing.

My favourite dessert... changes quite regularly. Just recently I've been mastering my technique at chocolate fondants:



That's the regular dark chocolate sort. Just to be a smartipants I tried making them with white chocolate too. Hm, not bad:
