Let them make the first aggression. After that you are just defending.

Schools are another circumstance. 0 tolerance is the norm. So wait until you are off campus before engaging if it is that important.

Yeah... it's tough to teach a kid this in our litigeous society. I constantly have to tell my kids not to even touch another kid because people sue at the drop of a hat for the smallest things. Also when a kid starts a fight he is often not the one seen as the agressor because no one was paying attention yet. It's the kid who fights back that is often seen as the agressor. It has happened too many times with my 20yr old when he was in school. I'm just glad he's done with school now. One more to go.

As far as off campus goes I have to deal with the same people who sue over anything looking for a payday.

Im so glad my kids are all grown now..but I have to say its not just kids its adults too..all down to just plain old manners..I think a lot of people forgot how very simple it is to say Please..Thank you..Your Welcome..a smile..a direct look in the eye when being spoken to, Its not rocket science yet people just seem incapable of Manners!

Don't hate me for this or anything, but here in Canada, Americans have the reputation of being rude. I've personally never had bad experiences with any, but many people say that they have no manners.
My brother actually went too California recently, and while he was out for dinner with some friends, they kept saying please and thank you. Finally the waitress began to give them dirty looks. When my brother realized how angry she seemed about it, he asked what they did wrong. She replied "are you making fun of me?", and that greatly confused the guys. My brother actually had to explain that in Canada we are raised that way. Unbelievable!

  Don't worry, I've been to many places in the USA. Never had a problem. Many Americans that I have met in Canada do come across as rude though. Very few times do you hear please and thank you whenever they visit us.

That's funny. That's how we feel about French Canadians out here on the east coast. They generally seem like bad drivers and rude MFers. I haven't had the same experience with other Canadians though.

out of foreign people, the ones that seem the rudest to me are the Chinese.
I work around many people fresh out of china and this is what i have observed.
they never eat with their mouth closed,
they do not have any sense of personal space,
they interrupt you constantly during conversations,
and the executives i have met speak perfectly good English but constantly disrupt meetings to talk among themselves speaking mandarin, VERY RUDE.
i know its a cultural thing, but if you are going to another country at least take the time to learn whats considered bad manners. like for instance, if you go to Thailand DO NOT pat children on the head... you will get your $@! beat.
but here this is totally acceptable behavior.
