Two selections required.

Played from 1967 (age 13) to 1984 (age 30) or so. Quit. Started playing again in 2010 (age 56).

Bought my first two guitars at age 19;

Finally figured out how to play without embarrassing myself at age 37.

First guitar at 14. Guess I had an advantage in the start, as I related it to the piano , which I had played for several years at that time. Been playing ever since. But surely a bit less during marriage and kids-mostly acoustic during those years. Now I am 55 :shock:

I was about 5 when I first started picking on my Dads Sears Silvertone acoustic. That would of been about 49 years ago. I learned my first chords and would actually consider my beginning in about 1968. I would of been 10.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

As Bluesky said, 2 sections required. I started playing an acoustic guitar when I was 18 and kept playing both acoustics and electrics until I started my day job in 1984. I've just started playing seriously again in 2010 when I retired.
I'd kept both an acoustic and an electric guitar during the fallow years and would occasionally take one or the other out and play until my fingers really, really hurt :cry:
Now my calluses are back and my fingers no longer hurt :)

Interesting... I also had a long break from playing and then got back into it. For me it was about 8 years in between. It's more fun the second time around!

Wow Martian! Do you remember the time of day? :lol:

It was more like 65 or 66 for me. I really can't remember. All I know is that Mary Traverse was a babe, Dylan had a crappy voice but wrote great songs, Mama Cass had a voice like an angel, and chicks dug guitar players.

Sighhh!

Peace,
Gridlok

Actually, I do. It was 11:00 AM on a Saturday morning. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. My mother drove me to the lesson in our red, 1964 Chevy Bel Air station wagon. :D

I guess life got in the way for a lot of us. I started in '63, age 12, played till '81, age 30. I didn't touch a guitar again until 2010, as I saw 60 approaching. I now try to play an hour per night and jam with everyone that will have me. I'm hoping to be a weekend warrior within the next two years.
