When i read the inputs from ''fresh'' newcomers , they often seem quite mature. I think a lot of people are following this forum without being members. Suddenly they sign up , and out comes often something reasonable , good and interesting views. In that aspect , Gorgon is right . I don't think one has to 'earn their spurs' - but everyone should treat each other with respect , and I think the long time posters deserves a tad more respect, as they have quite a lot of experience- and they are willing to share their knowledge , and that's why many of us are visiting this site. :D

In regard to the "issues" mentioned, i have my opinion but choose not to enter a war that no one can win. I will say it was ugly.

It's finally settled down. Why not just let it go?

That alludes to the fact that just by being on a forum for a certain amount of time means you are qualified to feel superior to someone just joining. It is this kind of elitist crap that is driving people away from this forum.

What about the incident i quoted where we have someone making offensive remarks about the most vulnerable section in society then backed up by one of the "good old boys" of the forum?

As i said before thinking you're better than someone or more qualified in some obscure way, simply because of the amount of posts you have on a forum, is retarded. But this is what happens on here time and again.

Your talking about me and my comments about the poor on the Clapton thread. Talk about hypocrisy, your a vet to me and I'm new here!

Think I'm done here.

Gorgon and Screaming Armadillo both make good points and I have seen both points of view in the short time I've been privileged to be here. I have seen newbies getting picked and I have also seen the trolls and disrespectful jacks who need to be set straight. It's all part of being an all inclusive forum with only the most offensive members being ejected.

We can clean up this mess by working together and "being the change we want to see". I find myself getting too involved with the negative stuff going on and have decided for myself to work on what Rob said which I have copied in my signature. 8)

I think there also reaches a point with these situations where everyone has said everything that can be said and we all need to leave the pieces on the floor and move on. In my opinion we are pretty much at that point.

The more we keep discussing this and making threads about it the more of a perceived problem there is, maybe it's time for us all to get back to arguing over maple and rosewood fretboards

Maple. Anyone who says rosewood obviously hasn't experienced the sheer awesomeness feeling of maple necks.

The reason this place has been so sucessful was because we have been self policeing. Lately there have been alot of subjects that should not have been put up and have been very political in nature which always start a fight. This place is going the way of the dodo bird if things are aloud to continue.

I have an idea.
hows about we get ole brad ta reset everyone's start date and post count?
:P
since everyone keeps getting hurt by opinions, lets just have brad filter out the word "opinion" so that we will have less of them
If there are no opinions to fire at people no one gets hurt

OK.... Gorgon here we go again  .....
I would much prefer to discuss topics related to Music, Instruments, Members interests outside of Music, even Political standpoints which when contained as a civil discussion , debate or argument can and often times be enlightening and will more often than not force the protagonists to reassess their viewpoints and think....
Let's face it Music/Musical Instruments are great but none of us here are One Dimensional so a topic which is interesting and challenging is always welcome....

Now... I thought we had left this " Tit for Tat " bickering some pages back..
If you were just referring to my post on a pecking order, I stand by what I wrote.
Pecking orders are part of life and any group that one joins, be they social, political, sports or on an internet Forum, there will be and is a certain etiquette to follow. My comments on this were in context to Corpseknot's lack of/or intentional disregard for what responses Forum Members had to the 1st and 2nd set of objectionable lyrics. Free speech does not allow anyone to be offensive and antisocial to a point of being destructive in any form...

None of us here are above reproach for what we post if it is deemed outside of acceptable constraints of this Forum...This the reality in life, in groups that you join, in the workplace and definitely on these Forums which contrarily to what some may think is very much reality.
( if not then explain to me how a kid was driven to suicide by internet bullying from her peers :?: )

All that being said, it is best at some point to let sleeping dogs lie, if you still have a beef with a Forum member ( which at this point is just adding fuel to the fire ) do the rest of us a favor and take it to the PM format, resolve it however you wish by either, never interacting with that Forum member or come to amicable terms, bury the Ax and get on with other topics on this Forum.
You have clearly stated your objection, we are aware of both standpoints and so be it...

Time to move on unless you wish to be regarded as a malcontent...
There are senior Forum Members waiting to reply to quality threads, not reality TV Drama..

A big reason that a lot of people feel that the forum has gone down the bog hole,is because a lot of members who have been on the forum for many years-some since its inception-have had it up to their eyeballs with the influx of airheads who post nothing but vacuous drivel and insulting and inflamatory topics. It's a bloody sin that so many have gone, because with them goes a treasure trove of combined knowledge of guitar and music related topics that could fill several volumes of a guitar encyclopedia. Many people don't pause long enough to proof read what they have written-not for spelling or grammer, but to see if what they have printed is pertainent to the topic at hand or if it could be hurtful or insulting to other forum members.

I doubt very much that any of these twits possess an iota of technical guitar or musical knowledge and frankly I don't see what positive input they could contribute to the forum. So many people post the most inane threads and topics that it's no mystery to see why so many have left. This forum no longer attracts the people that it should-as anyone looking in for the first time would see the petty arguments and insipid topics that abound here now would certainly turn away someone who was looking for sensible discussion and mature conversation.

Before people start to post indignant responses,I am aiming this at the childish yahoos who have gravitated here in the past while. You can tell that the influx of dimwits corresponds with the departure of so many long-time contributors, which is really tragic and a coup de grace to a forum that once was a great place to hang out and exchange friendly ideas, advice and banter. There are still intelligent and learned members of the forum but unfortunately people tend to notice the negative a lot quicker than they see the positive and the "mawmouths" make the biggest impression.I hope that some day the cretins of the forum get bored with picking fights with each other and with mature members and that the forum could build itself up once again to be the fun place that it once was.

+1 guitslinger well said. It has nothing to do with young or old. Superkid is a joy to have around. Some of the new members can't deal with anyone having an opinion other than their own and if you disagree with them, they start demanding apologies. That won't happen with many of us. We get defensive because we're talked to like idiots.
Being called an "old man" is getting old too. I prefer geezer.
Young people used to appreciate our input and sometimes actually learn something from our experiences. Now, the forum is full of know it all players who never had their amps out of their bedrooms trying to argue with us over nonsensical issues. Many of the members that have left were because they were addressed as old idiots. Slapchop aka Egfryer makes his living as a commercial songwriter, recording engineer and musician. He has his own recording business. He was treated so poorly he just left and never came back. That was a serious loss. The music to many of the video games these kids play were written by Jim.

There is no respect here anymore. respect is earned and if you want it, you have to give it too. I get many private messages from members look for help or an opinion and I do the best I can to take the time to help them out.

The grammer thing. Really, we're not texting here. It's annoying to see no caps or punctuation. I text, but I still use proper punctuation even when I'm texting.

This forum used to be great and it still can be. Not one original member expects to get his arse kissed, just a little respect, but then I hear lots of young people talk to their parents that way, so I guess it is what it is.

I was bullied in high school. You know how I fixed it? I punched him right in his stinking face and broke his nose. One shot. Problem solved. It's the only way to deal with these people. Internet bullying? Try getting physically shoved, punched, pushed down stairs in front of all your classmates for no reason other than being small and physically handicapped and wearing leg braces.

Today I would have been expelled, probably arrested, counseled, and made to apologize to the bully. Parents need to tell their kids to stand up to a bully not run away from them. Counseling doesn't help a bully but a broken nose stopped mine and others from picking on me. It's a guitar forum here. If you can't deal with opposing views and feel bullied by it, you may need to leave. This forum is nothing compared to some. Time to grow up kiddies.

Having a difference of opinion is not being bullied. Calling some a name like old man or A hole because someone doesn't agree with you or like the same gear/music/musician you like is just trolling for an argument. It's an opinion. We paid as much as you did to be here.
And, most of us old guys don't like the HRD series amps. Get over it.

One more thing, read and follow the rules. Profanity, selling your gear, advertising your commercial business etc isn't allowed. It ain't rocket science.
