1.Dynamic Range – Compression
2.EQ – Wah Pedal, Equalizer
3.Drive – Overdrive, Distortion, Fuzz
4.Modulation – Phaser, Flanger, Chorus
5.Time-Based – Reverb, Delay
Insert appropriat pedals accordingly. That is a general guideline for an effects chain, if using an effects loop, go from guitar, into steps 1-3, nd time based effects/modulation in your effects loop.

boost I have heard before, and after distortion...kinda have to let your ear figure that one out.

None!

Just get a good tube amp and then a good guitar. I have 6 boxes as well as the much acclaimed MXR 10 band EQ, and I use none of them now.

Thanks to the guys down in the amp section, and you know who you are. :D

This is how I set things up as well.
1) Compression/EQ/Wah > 2) various drive stages > 3) time based FX
If it's a clean boost I'll place it between stages one and two.
If it's a crunchy boost I'll place it in the gain stage, beginning, middle or end will depend on which pedal I want my rig to sound like. Whichever gain stage pedal is last in the chain will have the most influence on the final sound .. at least as regards drive/gain.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Well, depending on what fuzz you have, of course - some are really not happy being anything other than first in the chain. Fuzz Face-based circuits in particular like nothing more than being directly connected to your guitar, and the tone changes wildly when there's anything in the way.
