Jaco was amazing. I'm a guitar player who is obsessed with bass players. Some of my favorites (other than the great players you named):

Victor Wooten
Chuck Rainey
Stanley Clarke
Stu Hamm
Les Claypool
Geddy Lee
Edgar Meyer
Gordon "Sting" Sumner
Tony Franklin
Ray Brown
Tony Levin
Jack Bruce
Steve Bailey

... and my latest obsession, Tal Wilkenfeld

Hey strings10927. Good call on Victor Wooten. I've seen him do stuff that leaves my mouth hanging open in amazement. OK, there's more to musicianship than stunts - but the showy stuff is pretty good fun!

A couple of names I'd add to your list.

Tommy Kennedy is a bassist I've seen many times driving Dave Weckl's band. His chops are up there with the best and he's also a supremely tasteful player. He can play a lot when it's required, and provide calm support when that's what's wanted.

Gary Brown has been with brazilian guitarist Jose Neto for many years, amongst other projects (for some years he seemed to be almost the house bass player at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club). For Latin-fusion type stuff I've found nobody to touch him. Gorgeous playing on a five string fretless, and again, beyond all the fabulous licks he's a player of marvellous taste and musicality.

Well worth checking out, both.

Cheers - C
