I got the Fender Pawn Shop Jaguarillo Electric Guitar for my birthday and after a few days of playing I noticed static when I touched the screws or rubbed the pickguard.

I opened the guitar up and noticed that (unlike my strat), the output jack only had one wire leading from it (appeared to have no ground). There were two grounds in the unit, one coming off the volume pot and going to the bridge and another going to a metal brace in the cavity. Laying a ground from the output jack to the volume pot did not resolve the issue.

I then returned the guitar and got a new one. Same problem after a few days. I read on here that someone with a similar static problem thought it was static electricity and was going to shield the cavity. Does that sound like my problem as well?

This is a MIM Jag with an HSS pickup setup. This is my first MIM (have a strat and tele with no such issues from US).

Thanks for any ideas.

I found that the problem goes away when I have shoes on. Shielding tape has been ordered...

In case anyone comes around looking for a solution to this problem, I taped the entire cavity (except under the input jack and tone/vol pots) with shielding tape and also the bottom side of the pick guard. The problem has completely gone away.

There was no ground running from the input jack on this second guitar either and I didn't run one so it appears to not need it.
