Since we're not playing this weekend I was able to go out tonight and hear my uncle play. It seems like it's been forever since I got to hear him play. He's 78 yrs old now and has to sit in chair, but he's still got it. Smooth, clean and tasteful. I believe he's still playing 3 or 4 times a week.
He has been, and still is, the biggest musical influence in my life.
They let me sit in with them for a song. He remembered an old country song I did years ago and wanted me to do it. I was nervous about it since it had been awhile since I had done the song, but these guys play so smooth it was no problem. Everything just flowed.
If any of you know someone like this, get out to see them. Believe me, no matter what type of music you play you can learn a thing or two about musicianship from guys like my uncle and his band.
Oh yeah, he plays a Tele. I can only remember him playing some type of Fender. Probably one of the reasons why I've only owned and played Fender basses.

What kind of Peavey is that? I've got a similar one!

Not really sure. Seems like it's called a Special Classic or something like that. I do know that it has a 10" BW and is small but heavy.
He gets a very clean, clear but full sound. Never sounds thin or muddy. Same sound he's always got as far as I remember.
Every time I hear him play it reminds me of when I was a kid and he would visit. He always had his guitar and amp with him. After about and hour someone would always ask, "Did you bring your guitar?" He would set up in our living room and play some Chet Atkins/Merle Kilgore type stuff using that same sound.
I have great memories of Aunts & Uncles who also played some rhythm acoustic guitar. They would sing and harmonize on gospel and country songs. Later some of us "next generation" started joining in. Family gatherings were always filled with music.
I ended up being the only one that took up an instrument seriously and playing in bands. I do, however, have 4 cousins (brothers & sisters, 2 of each) that still perform occasionaly as a gospel quartet. They are really good. Good enough to make an atheist do some toe tapping!

Ahh, I have an Envoy 110 from the 80s. Very nice era for Peavey amps.

Rolling your eyes for appreciating a quality amp, and era of amps for the manufacturer? I don't understand you.

this is a great story. i am lucky to come from a family with many musicians. my uncle is in his mid-80's, and still can play drums extremely well. he even has the same set he has used since around 1950. we can learn a lot from those who played before us.
