A regular nut will work. you may need a small washer where the rod pokes out of the neck and use a nut driver to screw it on.
if you can't get the driver around the nut because there's not enough space, you can also get a small steel sleeve to compensate for some of the length of the original nut, maybe about 1/2 to 5/8" long. Just use two small washers, one at both ends of the sleeve and attach the nut.
