Ah, I've spent time in Bangkok too. In my experience it wasn't so much the heat as the humidity that was hard work in that town. And the pollution. Though that was in winter: I dread to think what it's like in summer. Has the monsoon started yet?

I was in north-west India through a long summer one time. It regularly climbed to 50C / 122F in the shade in the middle of the day. Yikes! That's the hottest I've ever been and it really was too much.

17C / 63F here in London today. Boring - but sunny, and that's good enough for me!

Cheers - C

Hi Ceri,

No monsoons yet, though, there has been a threat of rain each day. Hot and humid not unlike South Florida. While walking the streets of Bangkok (my first ever visit), you experience that "sewer smell" that seems to be almost everywhere. Still the city is not without its charm.

It never ceases to amaze me how the cities in SE Asia are built up like Manhattan. I guess I keep expecting pre-WWII Hong Kong like out of some old b&w movie with rickshaws and the like. This place is urban. On the other hand, I was having a beer at an outdoor cafe when an elephant walked by (camera was in the hotel room :x ). You might not see that in Manhattan . . . even when the circus is in town!

Hi Steve: many a long year since I was there so I'm betting the towers have shot up a lot more by now. I also remember the elephants in the middle of jammed traffic - I liked that sort of thing, in a Blade Runner kind of way! :D

Don't know how long you have in town, but what I remember is that you just have to get on the river, one way or another. That's kind of the heart of the city, especially the floating markets. I seem to recall that the Royal Palace was pretty glittery too, from a purely turistical point of view.

I was there a couple of months; I love Thai food but there comes a moment you hanker for something different. I'm not especially a devotee of the world's Hard Rock Cafes but I did spend an evening at the Bangkok branch, which felt almost as weird as the elephants. A nice change - and maybe one for your collection?

Anyway. Enjoy! :D

Cheers - C

That's what you think!! You've been down here too long. I could tell you some stories, including the sewer smell. How long are you going to be over there. I remember when you were assigned to Singapore.

The other day topped off at 110.5º and yesterday cooled off, thanks to the wind, to only 103.6º.
At 10:45 CST this morning it's already 98.1º, no wind and not a cloud in sight.

What's worse, although there has been some rain in our area we haven't received any here. The grass in my yard is brown and crunchy. At leasst i don't have to mow.
I'm watering some trees hoping to save them. We lost 5 last year due to the heat and lack of rain.

Global warming is a $@!&*. It's been 100 here for a few days straight.

It's 2:42 now and the outside temp is reading 110.3º. :(

What's the weather like where you live?

Palm Beach County FL. We've been running in the 90's pretty regularly. Rained all day. Weather coming at us from the east. Seem to be out of the drought belt. Locals say its been the wettest rainy season in years. Watering restrictions were lifted in June. People are looking at certain parts of the country and wondering.."dustbowl"? We're waiting on the remainder of the hurricane season with the usual anticipation. The displays of batteries, flashlights, and lanterns are out in full force as well as other necessary survival kit paraphernalia. :?

Bump - update.

Touched 31C / 88F here today in London. We've been having fabulous weather for several days - beautiful sunshine, clear blue skies, nice and hot but not over the top. Excellent.

The plan is that we get all the nice weather out of our system just in time for the Olympics to start on Friday. Apparently tomorrow, Thursday, will be the last fine day for a while and there is a weather front coming in that may bring a hint of rain for the opening ceremony on Friday, with serious downpours later in the weekend.

It's what the world is expecting of us: we'd hate to disappoint. 8)

Hmmmmm...on this side of the pond we're going to remain hot and sunny. The wife is out in Seattle visiting family. They're on the cool side and NO RAIN. Not what the world expects of them. In Seattle, if you carry an umbrella, they know you're not a local. BTW: Great photo that!

Well, I'm back from Asia. I have to find a long-term assignment out there someplace.

Stopped at our Nevada facility on the way back to FLL. Temps were in the mid-90s all week but they would drop down to the 58-62F range at night. Nearly cloudless skies.

That is exactly what I do not miss living on Block Island....The Hurricane season..Then again considering some of the storms that have come thru the past year I'm not so sure if I would not prefer to be on an Island 14 miles form the mainland...
Yesterday it was 83F and pouring rain and thunderstorms...Yes I was on my bike on a training ride, got caught, thought I could get a 3 hour ride in before the inevitable deluge...
