Various sources reporting that due to economic woes in europe and market conditions in general Fender has pulled its IPO share offering just 24 hrs before it was due to debut. Heres one link.....l

FMIC corporate leadership should have pulled the plug on it when the highly touted Facebook IPO turned out, if not an outright bust, to certainly at the very least be a dog. I agree the timing is rotten.

Interesting thing is that in the past 30 years Fender has never had better stuff out! I think more than the situation in Europe, which I agree is pretty dismal, it was the Facebook flop that put them off. Product wise most of what they've come up with lately has been some good new products and frankly most investment in FMIC shares would probably have come from USA investors who like the brand and the history and not from offshore opportunists.

There will be better days for IPO's and Fender may be back but could go private equity in the mean time. I was surprised facebook went when they did, they didn't need the cash and the markets at that time were soft to say the least.

Maybe they'll modify their business plan as well, manufacturing guitars just doesn't sound like a compelling growth business. A very good business but not a growth story.

You nailed it. They pulled it for lack of interest by investors. Its a steady industry but not a growth industry or huge profit industry.

Thanks for posting Stuart. I sincerely hope that Fender is becoming stronger and more profitable with every passing moment.
You can tell that I was apprehensive about the IPO, lol :D

There will be another IPO soon
Fender has NO money and they owe over 250 Million dollars
Fender makes great guitars butttt nobody are buying them.(economy sucks and people rather buy Ipads}
Its best to buy your American telecasters and strats before the next IPO because everything will be made overseas by then.
They will never see the money that is owed to them from Guitar Center,Have to say thank to bain for saving guitar center for the last few years, opps lets blame romney for the money that is owed

I think it is far better for Fender to remain privately owned. Greedy investors often ruin good companies.

Fender's largest domestic customer is GC and GC's financials are not good. There is educated opinion that GC may not survive in the short term and if they declare bankruptcy, Fender's long tern viability is going to be affected.

With the U.S. market saturated, Europe in economic turmoil, and Japan's economy stuck in neutral since the 1980s, Fender is counting on growth in Communist China and India for substantial growth and it isn't happening with the economic slowing in both nations.

Fender cannot afford to stay a privately held company, since they likely don't have enough capital to cover their total expenses for the next several years. An IPO would raise some cash, but the Facebook debacle and the LIBOR scandal has the financial world stunned as of late.

Greedy investors don't kill companies, incestuous crony corporatism does and has been doing so since the 1970s. Look at GM as a prime example of it. Who in this world is rich enough to buy Fender outright as a private venture and then dumb enough to run it as a hobby? No one I know. Investors have made American business prosper since the founding of the United States, but the evolution of corporatism is killing it in the insatiable demand for instant leveraged profits to apply elsewhere.

Some of the problems of poor sales could also be solved if Fender would lift the bar for over sea sales.
We, in Australia, cannot purchase anything from the US. There are models there that I would love to own and at a realistic price.
Here it can be over 12 months before anything gets here and by then we are restricted to what colours are left if it is a limited run.
The only reason I can see for a bar is price fixing to another country. Even with currency exchanges and full postal charges it is still a fair whack of a saving to buy from the US.
The rip off here is so bad we even buy all our fishing tackle, clothes etc from the UK and the US online... And we save a lot even after paying the full postal charges too.
There are no restrictions on anything like that if I want to buy them.
In fact, yesterday, I bought two reels for $600.00 plus postage from the UK and I saved $180.00 on the price I could get them here in Australia.
Go figure that one out.
When I have been to the States and actually buy something and bring it back, there is no problem then and I get adiscount on the sales tax too, so why can I not buy one online from GC, Clearwater etc etc?
Keith

It's amazing that a corporation won't make more effort to get their products to a country that will support them.
