V-h one classic was playing the origins of heavy metal. And they showed how important Deep Purple were. Interviewed Jon Lord quite a bit.
He made that B-3 scream as much as a guitar. Saw Deep Purple in concert from the " In Rock " album to " Private Stranger" days. My favorite version was with Ian Gillan.
True pioneers of heavy rock. Love The song " Lazy" Showed what great musicians they all were. Jon Lord willbe sorely missed !!!!!!!

Sad news. I am a huge Deep Purple fan and even seen them at the California Jan in 74.

Wow, I remember being a kid and hearing Child In Time for the first time. The way he hit those keys, it was like the Rhodes was crying from agony. He was my first exposure to true B3 playing. When he would go from ear screetching highs and blaring solos and then drop down to a jazz swing, I knew this guy was not an ordinary rock and roller. He had chops!

His raw emotion impacted me even as a guitarist.

Thanks for posting Snowy, I'm looking at my ticket stub:
Coventry Theatre
Hales St, Coventry

to be given up

Elf opened the show, Coverdale/Hughes singing for Deep Purple, my ticket sat me in front of Ritchie Blackmore. Jon set up stage right betwixt 2 B3s when he turned to face the theatre he would play them both and I hadn't seen a keyboardist do something like that ever before.
T., Crane, Emerson, Wakeman, Michaels, Allman, Moraz, Hensley, were all great but Jon is Lord of Rock and Roll. 8)

Thanks Violin Parent! It is still a great tune all these years later. The dynamics are awesome. In Rock was one of their best albums and greatest lineups for the band. What was amazing was their clarity. I am listening as I write this post. Awesome and awestruck. And not to forget Blackmore's ride. I love that sound!

If i told you all how long I've been a fan of Deep Purple, I'd only depress myself. They were always a great band, IMHO.
