There's an article in yesterdays L.A. Times about a Strat that has been stashed in an attic for the past 47 years that has just been documented as the Strat Dylan used at his infamous show where he plugged in an electric guitar for the first time on stage. Dylan denies that it is the one, saying he has the original. It's a pretty interesting story.

Yes the outcome will be interesting because this story has a lot of similarities to Bloomfield's '59 LP Burst that he left in a Canadian club after he failed to show up for a performance. That guitar is rumored to be held by a collector and the ownership of both guitars would be murky at best.

I read that also.

It would be interesting to determine who owns it. It does seem unlikely that he would leave the guitar with lyrics/work in progress, etc.

I see it the opposite. His life was a whirlwind at this time and a Strat left on a plane wasn't going to get a lot of attention and the lyric sheets may not have been that important at the time. I think it was kind of crappy that his lawyer mentioned that he had guitars and lyric sheets stolen during that period. As if that infers the pilot stole the guitar. I can't understand why celebrities can never admit to screwing up and instead resort to spin and damage control through a lawyer.

Leave your guitar on a plane and have no memory afterwards that it even happened? Man, you'd have to be stoned out of your mind for that.

...Oh, wait a minute...

Cheers - C

This will be an interesting turn of events in that the last I've read on the matter is that Dylan claims he still owns THE guitar.

I read another article in which the pilot had claimed that he contacted Dylan's people about the guitar but they did not respond. I'm not sure how you prove and/or disprove that, especially so many years later. And if you are in possession of something for many years, do you somehow acquire ownership?

I think the daughter should charge Dylan $1 per day storage, plus interest for being a deadbeat. Then he can have his guitar back that he's so attached to, he didn't notice it was gone for 47 years.
