Who ever said he couldn't sing the blues should take a listen to above clip. Energy, good arrangement, fantastic Sax player & solo, and the ability to let the instrumentalists take a song on a journey make a lot of his recordings timeless.

Then again, he recorded a huge amount of Schmalz - thoughts?

For me he's one of the greatest entertainers of the modern age.

Of course, you can also post pictures of your socks if you prefer! :D

Cheers

Was a pleasure Tbazzone- welcome. There are gems like this sprinkled throughout his career. Another favourite of mine is the fast-paced, gut-string driven Guitar Man. Apparently Elvis liked the guitar on the session for "Big Boss Man" so much, he somehow managed to get the contracts extended or "flexed" so that he could play on the above song as well - and what a compact, beating puncher it became! Just a few guys in a room, jamming - I don't think there were even many overdubs made. Piano, I think. But that's about it.

Anyhow. I enjoy it once in a while! :D

Cheers guys!

Just discovered this unreleased version of omly the strong survive. This is from the "operatic" era, however I can't find anything operatic about this. It's got rhaspy soul, minimal arrangement, and energy.

Anyway, if you want James Burton on guitar, here's summat more bluesy for you (also unreleased):

Stranger in my own home town (outtake). That's how Kings jam!

I've already been… everything seemed kind of smaller than I expected, but the 24 karat gold toiled seat in his Boeing admittedly did put a grin on my face.

Also, apparently when the FAA demanded he put a belt across his bed in the plane, he went and got one done in gold as well. The man knew how to travel in style! ;-D

Anyway. It's more the music I'm interested in.

Sorry, frets. I didn't know what a derail was. This thread was really humming until I did that faux pas. Come to find out, all my comments are derails. Who knew?
