The simple act of posting a comment like this places you squarely in the exact same position you accuse others of being. Condescending. When you tell someone they are disgusting you are attacking them personally and that has no place whatsoever in a rational debate. Like the old saying goes, when you point a finger at someone there are three fingers in your own hand pointing back at you. It's this kind of thing that is the reason you very rarely see me getting involved in these kinds of debates. Please stick to your argument and leave personal attacks out of the fray. They are always in bad form and are never appropriate; not in a setting like this. You only weaken your position in the eyes of everyone else watching when you do so. Personal attacks are the last resort of people who have no valid argument. The second and I mean the very second you resort to attacking the man instead of his position the onlookers all do several things immediately. They lose interest in your argument, they silently acknowledge your opponent as the winner and they begin to see you in a different light.

I'm not chastising you. I'm not judging you. I'm telling you this for your own benefit. This is how life works. You want to get your point across? You want to win an argument? This isn't how you do it. This is how children do it at recess and it's how desparate politicians do it when they have nothing useful to offer but it's not how adults do it.

There is nothing wrong with that statement. it is a statement of fact. Hou-Tex opened his big mouth and let us all know what kind of person he is at heart an "i did it so why can't you do it" type. Unfortunately the world is not black and white like that. He insinuated that all poor people are poor because they're lazy and don't want to work, a blatant lie. There are millions of people here in the UK on the breadline and they have jobs, just $@!& low paid one's. They work they are not lazy.

As far as personal attacks: if i feel someone has opened their trap and ridiculed a group of people, by tarnishing them all with the same brush, then they are gonna get it in the neck and hard.

If you're backing that kind of argument then you're also going to be in the firing line sooner rather than later.

If on the other hand you admit that what he said was crass and all encompassing and wrong then maybe we can be friends again. If you don't admit he was wrong that's tantamount to you holding the same views which means basically expect what you get when you announce those views.

I never said anything that could be construed as personal to Hou-Tex until he mouthed off in his self righteous repugnant way.

I'd like to hear him apologise.

Well i would like to but then that's letting Hou-Tex get away with crass insulting comments, basically tarring a whole world of people all with the same brush. That is not acceptable IMO.

If he apologises and retracts his statement then we'll be friends again. If not then i suggest this thread gets locked by an administrator as it's only gonna get worse.

My message to Hou-Tex is this: Don't insult whole loads of people that you don't know. You know nothing about their circumstances or their life story, or the reasons why it's gone the way it's gone for them. To classify a whole section of society as lazy just because they're poor is not clever and does you no favours whatsoever.
