I'm so happy with the thread derail I've cause here, I feel like I've made a positive impact on the world

But seriously I've just gone taken a few shots and messed around with a cool new technique on the axe which I might use in a new song and now brewed up a delicious pot of mint tea for the family with some fresh mint I picked out of my yard and am feeling super chilled.

Lets all be friends :D

I actually saw that actually happen on a telecast of a Prince's Trust Concert in the mid-80's. He was into the intro of 'Behind The Mask' and became aware that his amp was not on. The camera's on him with a long angle shot from his right. He looks over his left shoulder and starts signaling with his left hand an upward motion. Suddenly Lee comes out front and reaches behind the amp ostendibly to flip the standby switch on.

I'd imagine thats easier done than people think, I mean a big time artist would most likely expect all their gear to be ready to go when they walk out there, they have a guy for that!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

.................Did you beat up a poor person for it.
That sort of thing only happens on the NYC subways. They rip off each other. In fact, there are constant public service announcements on the trains and the platforms about keeping safe one's personal data 'toy's as I call them.

My contributions notwithstanding, we should get beyond this. These are a complex constellation of issues intertwined, none of which are ever going to be solved...Gorgon's efforts and pleading not-withstandings...without signficant upheaval in the fabric of society. I don't see that happening in what's left of my lifetime anyway.

A Canon AE-1 is the best analog I have. Not expensive, but a decent camera. The case is so old it's desintegtated. I tried to buy a new one and they don't make the clam shell type anymore.

Yep, I still have one of these, too, purchased a long, long time ago in a land far away, along with several lenses and other stuff. I have taken at least a million pictures with it. I was thinking about putting it on eBay, but my son says he wants it... decisions, decisions...

No discussion of quality camera's can be complete without mentioning:

The Midget:

My mom bought this for me during a trip to Manhatten, in one of the "Import" stores, which at that time meant all items from Japan. I figure it's about 55 years old. The film has never been developed. I wonder what's on there?

[Checkin' in...] Hi guys. I'm going to go mad and derail this thread onto the subject of Clapton's sound. Nobody on this Forum, or elsewhere for that matter, knows Eric's tone and technique like ZZDoc - who has a doctorate in Claptonology, far as I can see. This was a nice post:
ZZDoc wrote:
My interest in Clapton is based principally on the fact that I like what I hear and I expect that all successful artists are such because they have cultivated an audience which is willing to purchase their work product. Now...as to this artist's virtuosity and the how's and why's of it...much is due to a natural and well nutured gift, and much is a contribution of technology. The tone of the old 335 and Blackie is hardly that of the present...and even across the history of the Lace Sensor guitars and the myriad changes in the backline, certain aspects of it have changed, while others have been constant. If you take the time to slow down Clapton's videos and see how he uses his fingers, facts will be revealed. The way he generates his vibrato without letting that neck move at all is mystical to me. His fingers are of interesting length side by side and he often uses his second finger to fret notes most of us would use a third or fourth finger for. He's a master at the use of half bends and prebends and vibrato which colorizes his tone.
Though he travels all over the fret board, the registers above the 12th fret are home and the way he can generate sustain has got to be a factor of the way his sound system is EQ'd and that is a secret which has never been revealed anywhere to the best of my knowledge. It's been said that his guitars are set up to permit a straight string pull from nut to bridge 1/8" above the finger board and I would not be surprised if Dickson dressed and polished those frets with the precision of a diamond cutter. Two of my all time favorite Clapton tracks are on Rambling {EC Was Here} and If I Need Someone {Harrison Japan Tour} The latter damned near knocked me off my feet the first time I heard it. By the way, the only one who hasn't yet tried to go back in time and capture that remarkable solo performance in Crossroads Blues is Eric himself. He's as much said that he doesn't care to revisit these things and, in all the various ways that I've heard him perform that work, I've never heard a reitteration of the Cream performance. That's a one-off....

I remember ZZDoc talking about Eric's vibrato technique several years ago and I paid it far more attention from that moment on. And the Doc is right on the money, it's a great thing to watch as well as listen to.

Since Eric's "thin" tone was mentioned somewhere back in the mists of the beginning of this thread... Doc, if you're seeing this, last time I saw Clapton live about a year ago I was completely amazed by the range of tones he got and managed to transmit through the PA out to the audience, playing just the one pale blue Strat all night long. I have never in my life seen a guitarist achieve so many completely different sounds that you could actually hear when sat in a live venue.

You and I have both set eyes on an earlier incarnation of the skyscraper of off-stage processing he uses to make that happen. Some people are suspicious of an over-processed signal and I'd have put myself amongst them - but that is strongly countered by Eric's fabulous live sound. Whatever he's using to make it happen, it's justified. In my view.

And not a "thin" tone amongst 'em...

Further thoughts on Clapton's tone, Doc?

Cheers - C

Well, I've seen the Soldano and '57 Twin rigs at auction. Tried to make some sense of where the pots were set but it wasn't easy. I recall one venue where you saw him, and with whom. I expect that he was running through the '57 Twin or a pair of them. His amps are NOT stock. They've all been wired for heavy duty service. There's a sound board involved in all of this, as well as the sound system and acoustics of the house. Every nuance of tone is going to be picked up and transmitted there. The guitar is stock, but a third generation in voice due to the fact that he went from '57 Strat to the Lace equipped guitar and then to the VN's whose tone he preferred. He uses only one pedal on the floor so I have to give the rest of it over to the EQ'ing of the amps and the house. [which continues to be a mystery. Even Chromeface hasn't come up with anything on that to date] If you listen to enough live concert video you will hear a subtle difference from venue to venue. But the whole effect has definitely evolved over the years.
