EC plays the blues like it was intended. CLEAN!

Although I love SRV, I think EC is the better blues player and all around better player.

 how did we get to bangin up on Stevie? This is a bang up on EC thread.... Get it right!!!

Ps I totally don't agree... correction that was too harsh... EC is a different blues player....no where near as hot a player....EC's more melodic...... Not the same passion and fire to wail the guitar.... SRV is a Hendrix fan.....it's all subjective though huh....

Exactly my point! It's subjective. Two totally different styles, actually more than that, Stevie had pretty much one style like Hendrix, while EC is more old school and play's many different styles from many different old school blues players. More of a delta blues style.

Can I bang on Jimmy Vaughan now?

This is a funny thread, someone here complained EC was boring and then tried to through up Paul Gilbert as innovative? I'm sorry that is just hilarious.

EC...Boring? Then give a listen to John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers With Eric Clapton, then go directly to Creams' Live Vol I & II, then give an unbiased listen to his Derek and The Dominos Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album, then try his Behind the Sun (Same Old Blues and Just Like a Prisoner), then try checking out the dobro playing on the Unplugged album...and if you still don't see it, then listed to just about any of the songs on his Journyman album...if after that you don't understand then you will probably never will...go enjoy some other music then

EC plays what he likes. Everybody has their view which in my case changes over time. But I've always liked him and always will because the blues players he models after are my favorite sounds too. Such as Buddy Guy, etc. Single note players. BB King and the other Kings. To each their own. :)

He sounds fine to me. His boost is plenty.

Saw EC at the Summit in Houston, TX in '90. Darn good show.

First time I realized how skinny that dude is. He was thin but the tone wasn't.

To me, I think he sounds best playing with Jack Bruce. I loved the way those two sound together. I'd love to see them do some sort of project together. It doesn't have to be Cream, even though most people would probably expect that. I know Ginger Baker was a large part of that sound, but I'm talking from a guitar/bass perspective. If that makes sense. I just think their playing and sounds compliment each other.

On an aside I picked up John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers last week alongside Layla and assorted love songs after years of just picking up greatest hits and youtube watches etc (Don't hate me). The blues breakers record often makes me get a huge smile on my face when Eric lets rip! I imagine that it must have blown peoples minds back in the sixties when the youngsters put the vinyl on to play. I read how he pulled in a 100 watt marshall stack to get his sound and the engineers/producers didn't know how to get a decent recording! I love reading things like that.

Two fantastic albums and I would love to pick up a tweed champ to dial in some of that Layla sound!! My playing would leave a lot to be desired though!!

I saw him play at Earls Court some time in the 90's and it was a cracking gig. Lives long in the memory that does.

Each to their own on music that's what makes it so great.

Tom

Do we forgot that Clapton was one of the pioneers in the middle to late sixties of the heavily distorted sound and the use of Marshall stacks?

The man has nothing to prove. If anything you should bow down and give thanks for his existence.

Eh! no i don't think we should actually. This is what's commonly called getting everything out of proportion.

Making god like figures out of musicians or anyone else for that matter is beyond the pale it really is.

Stop putting people on pedestals. It's silly and immature. You can enjoy someone's music without resorting to that.
