Hou-Tex, if you're reading this ... don't do it. Don't give credibility where none is due.

So, as i suspected you too think that it's fine to take the piss out of people who are poor by stating that they're all lazy.

Comment and explanation then why stacks of people who work and work damn hard at that are in poverty? Explain that for us all.

Don't try to duck out of the thread before answering the question.

Also answer this question: Do you think it's acceptable bearing in mind the current economic climate to be trying to get a rise out of people that are poor by labelling them all as lazy? Well that's what your friend has done, lumped everyone together and labelled them all.

First of all, I never made a comment or a judgement one way or the other about Hou-Tex's comment. You did that all by yourself. Don't drag me into your little pile of poo. I made a comment about your behavior for the sake of the board and for your sake as well and in response it now it seems like you'd like to divert attention away from your behavior by implying some kind of wrong doing on my part when there is none. Sorry but that kind of misdirection doesn't work on me. Second of all, if you're trying to make an enemy of me you may just succeed if you keep it up and you know what? ... The longer you persist with this the less I care what you think of me. Making an enemy of me will be your loss, not mine. You have made a fool of yourself with this nonsense. I tried to help you out of it but you threw it back in my face, so good day to you sir.

Here I come Supro. Right now.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I think this was the same guitar he used at the Bob Dylan Tribute, his tech commented that this was the last of the "power" guitars that Fender had built for him.

What you have here is a Lace Sensor equipped guitar. Eric ultimately opted for the then new Vintage Noiseless which, according to Mike Eldred, FMIC sent him to try and he liked them better. According to Chromeface, one of our Forum Clapton sources, the VN's were perceived as less muddy. I personally prefer the Laces...but that's what's really at issue here...as Ceri suggested. Personal preferences, without violent disagreement. I'll offer something additional once I've completed my reading of this thread. Something none of you have yet to have touched on and which I have written on in these pages often.

First off....there's a modicum of civility in these discussions which the charter members have long been proud of that does not need to be breached in an interchange of ideas and would respectfully remind all that this is a tradition which we all should endeavoring to maintain. You bet...we've had some REALLY stormy debates herein, and I've been in the thick of some of them, but we need to ease back on the throttles and let diplomacy hold sway. Now...back to the OP...

My interest in Clapton is based principally on the fact that I like what I hear and I expect that all successful artists are such because they have cultivated an audience which is willing to purchase their work product. Now...as to this artist's virtuosity and the how's and why's of it...much is due to a natural and well nutured gift, and much is a contribution of technology. The tone of the old 335 and Blackie is hardly that of the present...and even across the history of the Lace Sensor guitars and the myriad changes in the backline, certain aspects of it have changed, while others have been constant. If you take the time to slow down Clapton's videos and see how he uses his fingers, facts will be revealed. The way he generates his vibrato without letting that neck move at all is mystical to me. His fingers are of interesting length side by side and he often uses his second finger to fret notes most of us would use a third or fourth finger for. He's a master at the use of half bends and prebends and vibrato which colorizes his tone.
Though he travels all over the fret board, the registers above the 12th fret are home and the way he can generate sustain has got to be a factor of the way his sound system is EQ'd and that is a secret which has never been revealed anywhere to the best of my knowledge. It's been said that his guitars are set up to permit a straight string pull from nut to bridge 1/8" above the finger board and I would not be surprised if Dickson dressed and polished those frets with the precision of a diamond cutter. Two of my all time favorite Clapton tracks are on Rambling {EC Was Here} and If I Need Someone {Harrison Japan Tour} The latter damned near knocked me off my feet the first time I heard it. By the way, the only one who hasn't yet tried to go back in time and capture that remarkable solo performance in Crossroads Blues is Eric himself. He's as much said that he doesn't care to revisit these things and, in all the various ways that I've heard him perform that work, I've never heard a reitteration of the Cream performance. That's a one-off.

In closing, if you care to compare apples, oranges, peaches and pears, in terms of unique artistry, creativity, and composition from artists who are contemporaries of each other, I offer you Beck, Clapton, Gilmour, and Knopfler, each with their own incredible gifts.

Respectfully submitted:

Doc

I've always had a few artists that I never get tired of listening to. Dead tied for #1 are The Who and Eric Clapton, no matter where he was at. THe Who do edge him out a bit because of my hero worship of John Entwistle. I've always admired E.C. and probably always will. His interpretation of whatever he does is quite spectacular, well at least most of the time. what he does when he's not playing really isn't that big of a deal to me. How this thread got to this place is amazing.

Whatever the outcome, i'm sure Mr. Clapton will go about his life doing whatever he choose to do, without any thought of what anyone thinks.

You did indeed make a judgement when you insist i am the only one that needs to apologise; by insisting that he has nothing to apologise for you are in essence endorsing his opinion on the sections of society that we're discussing. Don't try to wriggle off the hook you know full well that by not condemning what he said that you're equally as guilty. End of story.

As far as making an enemy of you what are you talking about? are you mad? this is an internet forum  and we're in different countries. How will you being an enemy be a loss to me? Talk about being over dramatic

You have to state categorically that you disagree with his comments about poor people being poor because they're lazy and distance yourself from them. If you won't do that we'll draw our own conclusions ie. it means you agree with them.

I can see a new name on my ignore list. Just give a rest will you?? Take your hook and toss it into another pond. Nobody's trying to wiggle off any hook. You're trolling for arguments. :? Nobody elected you to be the worlds savior or super hero of the poor.

No i'm afraid you're all wrong; i don't want any arguments, what i want is an acknowledgement that a crass stupid comment was made regarding an already vulnerable section of society and an apology issued by the person who made the statement. That's all.

Plus of course i want BMW to confirm that he disagrees with the comments that were made by Hou-Tex.

Not much to ask for.

Gorgon..Enough is enough...If this is such a thorn in your side then I suggest you pursue this point of contention in the PM format .

The rest of us would prefer getting on with the discussion as there have been valid points made.

If you have valid points of view to the Clapton Discussion, then your input is welcome.
If instead you wish to pursue Socio-economic issues then start a new thread and we'll see if anyone wants to participate.
Otherwise there is no need to continuously flog a dead horse..

Now back to what ZZ-Doc just posted.... 8)

Ok i agree, as i don't want this to go this way. All i wanted was an acknowledgement that a crass comment was made but it isn't forthcoming.
