Well the downstairs heat pump gave up it's ghost this week. I guess that I should be glad that I got 26 years out of it. Luckily, the upstairs is on it's own system. That is where my music room is or I might be worried about the guitars. As it is, me, my wife, and our two boxers are relegated to the upstairs until we get it replaced. My local quote was $4024 for a 2 ton Rheem, $4200 for a Trane from Lowes, an unbelievably $6500 from Sears for a Kenmore . As soon as the Sears guy heard that I already had two quotes, without even knowing how much they were, he immediately stated that there was no way he could compete with "local quotes". He even seemed indignant that I had other quotes. He was here and gone in about three minutes and I am pretty sure that he left mad...

Our HVAC cost us 7,200 two years ago. We've temperatures over 100 degrees now for the last 8 days but it has kept the house 72 degrees so well worth getting the best HVAC you can and the savings will pay for it and you'll be comfortable at the same time. Ours is a Carrier central air unit + Furnace and home is 1920 sq. ft. Not many heat pumps in MD. because of the temp. extremes they don't hold up and do the job.
Luckily they are saying we will be in the mid 80's for the next few days and can use the break in heat.

Your not kidding, mine crapped out on a 102 degree day! Actually bought a window unit for my music/office room to use for three 3 days without. :D

NO TAXES???

I paid to have a heat pump installed this week (man I hope that they hurry up - it is so hot). The quote was $4,200. When I went over to Lowes to complete the paperwork and pay, I asked how much do I need to add to the $4200 for taxes. The Lowes guy said that there are no taxes added to the quote on a heat pump installation.

Is that right or I wonder if they just folded the taxes into the 4200 so that I would not know how much the heat pump actually cost them?

Heck it has been so hot I haven't even tried to practice. The seconds floor is cooler because it has it's own separate system but I am just dragging butt due to the heat downstairs.
