I agree with you guys, maybe I need to help him to work harder and teach him no matter what. I actually started playing after him and I now have far surpassed him. I guess I just have to help him out no matter what and then when we get reasonably good, he might get a good guitar. I'll update what happens next practice! Thanks for the help so far!

I've recently joined a band with two other friends, and we've been doing great! We have a Lead Guitarist (me), a Bassist, Rhythm Guitarist, Keyboard Player, and Drummer. We share a lot of the same interests and love to play the same type of music and listen to the same type of music as well. All of us except one person, the Rhythm Guitarist, who is also a good friend of mine. He just doesnt share the same interest and his equipment sounds horrible. Sometimes he just tunes out. He has a Fender Squier Starcaster with messed pickups (worse than usual), bad fretwork, bad electronics, and a mediocre Acoustic Lead Series 30 watt amp. We've tried to convince him to buy a new guitar as it sounds very bad compared to mine and you can really hear the difference (I have a Squier Hot Rails Stratocaster with a Mustang III 100 Watt amp) but says he cant and doesn't give any effort to convince his parents. I do not want to be any more rude to him, already asking if he can get a new guitar, so I was wondering if you guys know of anyway to tell him to leave or have any other positive outcome.
Thanks,

Just tell him nicely that he is not doing his part in the band. Have your band back you up too. I have been in so many bands. and no matter what band you are in...someone always seems to ruin it. usually just one person too. and its too bad, however, you seem like you have really found a good group of kids to play with, so stick with them...because i will tell you from personal experience, finding musicians who you get along with, and who are on your level...who want to play the same music as you and have all the same goals. its harder to find than a needle in a hay stack my friend.

Good luck man, i suggest you just tell him calmly and nicely. to shape up. or beat feet.

He's only 13, I don't think there's any sense in badgering him. Just give him some space and I'm sure he can get better on his own.

He actually sounds like he knows as much or more than I did when I was 13. Just give him some time, and help him where you can. He'll smarten up. :)
