thanks for all the input.

some interesting suggestions. that samsung thing is too much, one of the reasons i dont want an ipod is because i just want a music player. ive got a phone, that has a great camera, and apps, and games, why would i want another device that does the same thing but worse ?

deluxe strat 2012 - good to hear another satisfied walkman user. ive not a read a bad review about them yet.

butchA- 4gb isnt big enough for my music, also i dont rate my chances of being able to see that screen while im driving without binning my car into a tree.

im going to pop into town today to see whats about, see if anything tickles my fancy. thanks

I'm looking for a new player myself (no Apple products for me, either). I have an 8GB SanDisk Sansa that has served me well but is starting to show its age. The new Sansa players look nice and have a lot of features, but the online user reviews are awful.

The Samsung Galaxy and Sony Walkman look great, but I don't travel as much as I used to so I don't use the player as much so $150 is too much for me.

I use a Sony. It works perfectly and I don't have to get involved with Apples' "synching", which I just don't get. It forces you to have the identical files on your computer to use as a backup.

I prefer the simple drag and drop. I can have any files I want out of my music library. And change anything I want, anytime.

Synching. Lots of people seem to like it.

Just not my cup of tea.

My two cents.

Gridlok :D

IMO nothing is close to the ipod in terms of ease of use. Would I be right in saying you're based in the uk? If so I have a ipod classic sitting unused in a drawer that you are welcome too free of charge. I'd rather it goes somewhere and gets some use. Your call !

SnowJoe, you are the best, if I lived in the UK you'd be looking at my smiling face right now Bro. :D

+1

The man is THE man! :D

Seriously guys, all Apple's negative sides aside- There's a reason Apple suddenly broke into the mainstream: it's called iPod. Without that they'd have been dead as a Dodo (more or less) ages ago.

Image as that. And the iPod Classic Snoejoe so gallantly speaks of is/was one of the best.

Cheers -

I had a Classic before they were called Classic. The Touch is lightyears ahead. Lightyears. And the Macintosh was what made Apple, not the iPod. The iPod just brought more users into the Apple world and started the Domino effect. Now it's Apple's operating system(s) based on Linux that is(are) brining people over to the good side of the force.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

i found out yesterday a touchscreen player is useless to me. as i said i have mine on random 99% of the time, and inevitably i want to skip some tracks every now and then to suit what im doing. with my previous player, that had buttons, i didnt even have to put my hand in my pocket, take gloves off, look at it, i just knew where the 'next track' button was, and pressed it through my clothing. same in car, skip track without taking my eyes off the road.

with a touchscreen i borrowed yesterday, it was just hassle. had to remove it from my pocket to unlock it and press the right key on the screen. doesnt work with gloves on, have to look at it to do anything.

i definitely want something with buttons. went to check out a walkman today, but out of stock.

+1 on the Sony Walkman. Sound quality is supposed to be better than iPod, and you put music on it as if it's a USB stick.

@ Moochy- I think it would be proper to thank Snowjoe for his generous offer !
@ Brother Dave: If you have a bulk of mp3 , it will stay in its original coding if just drag and drop all the bulk into iTunes, using your Finder (mac) -or windows explorer. To be safe , you could check that the import settings in iTunes is set to mp3. Try it out w a couple of songs. 12000 songs might take some time :)

Fear not we have spoken via PM and he has been more than gracious for the offer, wouldn't want anyone to think otherwise! :D

I really don't see how our thoughts differ: To break into the mainstream means exactly that: Bringing more users into the Apple world and starting the Domino effect.
