Learning the minor pentatonic for me.

It was one of those "So that's how they do it!"

20 years and i listen to Tommy Emanual and i don't think i know i'm still a beginner  ......My favorite break though's are becoming better each year...... But as a learing basic chords starter it would be Jamming with Drummers and Bass players and realising i'm in time and having a ball!! long time ago..... Ha ha.... Would have Been mainly Ac/Dc some deep purple and black sabbath and touch ZZ top.... Thanks for draggin the memory out!!

I'd vote for the Pentatonic Scale too. As a beginner, once you figure it out, everything else falls into place! 8)

Definitely barre chords, followed by scales and changing chords. Looking back I don't know why it all seemed so difficult.

Another one not mentioned is gaining control of your pinky. I know people who have been playing for years who still play with just three fingers.

My favorite "breakthrough" was when I could play without having to look at the guitar the whole time. The verse and bridge sections of Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith. I was thrilled to death about that. I could actually look at other people when playing then!
