Or anything guitar related? I am thinking of going to one tomorrow and I was wondering if there is a chance of finding something cool (and vintage).

Thanks Tim, I never found anything good either. It's funny, that something that good was found in the trash. I love Dano's. They have their own unique sound.

This picture should be next to the definition of the phrase "One mans trash is another mans treasure". Nice photos.

I bought a Silvertone at a flea market for $5. It was one of the versions that was built by Danelectro. It was nothing but a shell but I was able to use the tuners to replace the broken tuners on an old Danelectro I owned.

In '79 or '80 I got a Gibson ES330 from a pawn shop. Bach then the ES330 wasn't considered a collectible. The asking price was $175 but we couldn't get any sound out of it when I tested it so they let me have it for $125. It was a sunburst with the chrome p90s. As a birthday present my Mom paid to have the electronics fixed. Couple of years later it was stolen.

I've never found anything worth a damn at a Flew Market, music related or otherwise. I have, however, had a few decent pawn shop finds.

Image

This is a '93 Epi Les Paul Custom that I found in a Mexican pawn shop in McAllen, Texas. They were asking $450, but it had been hanging there quite a while, so I went back there six days in a row, making them the same offer of $200 every day. On the last day I was in town the manager was there and we finally agreed on $220... but he told me not to come back there again.

Image

I also got this Peavey T-60 at the same pawn shop, though it was my stepfather who went in and bought it for $120. I still have both of these guitars and have recently begun a complete restoration of the Les Paul, you can see that most of the "gold" is long gone, hence new pickups, new bridge and tailpiece, new tuners.

I have never found a Fender in a pawn shop that wasn't way overpriced.

I have seen some musical instruments at flea markets, nothing worth ever taking home. I have better luck in antique shops. I am not saying that you might find something guitar related, just that I never have (that I want to take home).

Friend of mine just picked up Chinese clone of a P Bass (Davidson) and nice 10w bass amp at a flea market for $100.00. both in new condition. Real basic cheap guitar but plays nice.

You never know! :o

i was able to find a nice peavey valveking 112 a few months back. one of those payday loan places had it advertised for 230.00 on craigslist. i waited a few weeks- the ad was still up. called them up, brought in my strat to try it out, and walked out with the amp for 200.00. not a steal, but a fair price nonetheless.

About a month ago I hit one of those really sleazy Gold & Pawn shops, very big heavily tatooed bouncer types behind the counter... I wandered over to the meager guitar and amp selection and found a Roland Cube 20 in excellent condition for $39, about 25% of the cost of new. I bought that sweet little amp in a heartbeat and then beat it out of there!
