Don't laugh at me for this!

-What is a truss rod
-What is the nut and what is it's purpose
-What does "pre-CBS" mean
-What are locking tuners and how are they different from standard ones
-What is the difference between a solid state and tube amp
-How do you record songs
-Can you make a living on making music? I used to think only big stars made money on it.
-How does a tremolo work
-What are the differences between different sized strings

If you can answer some of these questions, that would be great.
I will probably have more questions coming. I am such a noob

1 - a metal threaded bar that runs down the neck. this can be adjusted to straighten or bow the neck.

2. the little white, usually, bit of plastic at the start of the fretboard that the strings run through. keeps strings in the right place, gives them something to create an angle over so they keep tight.

3. CBS (the company) brought fender in the late '60's i think, before selling them a few years after. pre CBS guitars are considered the best, as its widely regarded during CBS quality went down.

im off to work now sorry hahaa

That is a bunch of questions M1ke.
moochy13, good start.
Locking tuners lock and standard tuners, for the most, part do not. There are more detailed descriptions of different tuners, perhaps we'll see some of them.

solid state amp uses circuit boards and other electrical gizmos to produce sound. valve amps work by voodoo.

not really they use old school vaccuum tubes (like used to be in really old radios) to somehow produce the glorious sounds we all want

99% of people wont make a living off of music, unless you own a studio and make money charging people to use it. most bands ive known are happy just to go home with a bit of extra cash each, enough to cover the bar tab for the night, pay for petrol, any rented equipment etc. as always there is the exception.

a tremelo has a pivot point and is usually kept under tension by springs. which is whats behind the backplate of a strat. push the bar down, the strings detune briefly, then the springs in the back pull the bridge back to its original position, hopefully keeping all the strings in tune still. going out of tune is the biggest problem with using a tremelo, hence all the different designs available to combat this.

different sized strings are just that - different sizes. i dont like to play anything less then .11's. this means the thinnest string is 0.11....erm something. i think. i think the common sizes range from '8s (very thin) to .13's. it isnt just the thinnest string thats a different size though, all the strings go up in size at the same time. thinner strings are very easy to bend, easier on the fingers, easier on the frets, and easier to noodle on. thicker strings i think give a better, fuller sound. i used to use .13's, which were a $@!&* to bend but sounded great. however the low E was so thick it didnt fit in the nut and broke it.

also, various size packs of strings may or may not have a 'wound' G string. thicker sets seem to have them, though recently ive noticed you can sort of choose between identical size sets with or without w wound G. again, i prefer the wound G string for the sound and feel.

-A solid state amp uses transistors to amplify an electronic signal, a tube amp uses vacuum tubes. Generally people feel that tubes give a warmer, richer tone. They also distort naturally when turned up high.

-You need either a computer with some recording software (ProTools, Reason, Logic, Audacity) and some other hardware such as microphones, an audio interface etc. There are also all in one recorders available from companies like zoom and tascam. Like this;

-A lot of people make a living out of playing music and other jobs in the music industry. Whether or not you're likely to is a different matter.

-When a guitarist refers to a tremelo, the usually mean vibrato. Basically with a strat style tremelo you press down on the arm and the tension in the string is reduced giving a lower pitch. When you let go of the arm the springs in the back of the guitar retract and the strings return to their original tension.

-Different gauges of strings are varying thicknesses. The higher the number, the thicker the string.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, I'm sure somebody will answer them.
