I am going to commit social suicide here.......I was channel surfing and flicked onto MTV Katy perry in concert last night, and i was shocked  , Her band were rockin out two great guitarists and a killer drummer, And then she picked up a acoustic and belted out some really bluesy numbers playing and singing her little cute $@! off!!! I thought she was strictly electric music pop!!! She deserves a Kudo's!!!.....You wont belive it till you see it.

Ps, she was smoking hot in a little red rubber mini skirt too.... :|

I find that a lot of artists that are written off as poppy or whatnot actually are good musicians. There's been quite a few times where I've been surprised when I hear/see a musician and it's been totally unexpected and good.

I saw that too and was blown away!!!!

Unfortunately, none of her albums reflect her musicality and actual talent..........Lady Gaga is the same. I think both of them are totally contrlled by their labels for their releases but live they show a lot of 'proper' bands how it should actually be done......

Sweet so its wasn't just the rubber mini skirt she was wearing and the bottle of red wine i drank... I was blown away too.... She's nearly bluesy live and has a great band huh!!! She should tell her label to ram it now she's made millions and play like that all the time....She's made of a lot hardier stuff than her hit music suggests!!!

She seems to be multi-talented, like Madonna, Prince, Stevie Wonder. I don't know why she married Russell Brand, but there's no accounting for taste.

this is a troubling situation for a lot of good musicians. "should i play the music i really like, or should i play something that mass amounts of people buy and will make me a lot of money fast?"

when you're hungry, it's a tough decision to make. there's a lot of people who work hard for years before they make it, and other "pop" type of singers seem to come out of the woodwork at a young age, and get instant fame- and money

Did you see Lil' Wayne try to play a Strat? He played 3 chords then smashed it.

RIP Strat

what sucks the most about being a good musician these days. Is all the technology they have. Pro tools is musics best friends and worst enemy all in one. It really sucks for bands like mine..who are talented, who can play great music as well as write great music. The thing thats a real bummer is... you have a band, who can barely play their instruments. though due to the success and ease of use of all these mixing, mastering and editing programs. the average crap musician can record an album and sound just as good as the next band, who has real talent. the only way these bands get called out is when they play live..and sound like crap. though, it seems like the average person really doesn't care how a band sounds live..as long as they heard some of the melodies and the words, they seem to be happier than a pig in poop!

Oh well, it is what it, and these music editing programs are a great thing. It just sucks when you know your band is soooooo much better than some of these clowns who are getting all the attention, just because they have a pro recording, and not all of us can afford to drop 10 grand on a recording.

This is the case with a lot of pop artists, and I happen to rate Lady Gaga highly , its fantastic if you take it for what it is, pop music to male people dance and feel good.

Its often the case that behind a large number of pop songs is a highly talented songwriter /musician deliberately writing simple catchy tunes to sell lots of records.

most notably for me, Gary Barlow.

yes, the Take That Gary Barlow who first appeared on our screens in the early '90's with a bleach blond crew cut and properly baggy dungarees busting out some severly embarrasing 'moves'. but, no doubt the guy can write HUGE songs with killer hooks that sound perfect.

not a fan of Katy Perry but I admire every woman artist who gets the guitar on stage! She has some really cool Les Pauls..

She is quite talented musically and very pretty in a Betty Paige sort of way. As someone said here, her talent is not revealed in her current music..... that is true.
