RollingStone.com and Experience Hendrix have come together to create the brand new Hendrix at 70 hub to celebrate what would have been Jimi’s 70th birthday year http://tinyurl.com/84cbh37.

I was expecting to see an "age progression" image of Mr. Hendrix.

Jimi and all of those big time acts at the old Gulfstream Park for $7. Wish I had lived here back in the day.

Think I'll play some Jimi right now.

I think my ticket for the July 5, 1970 Miami show was $4.50.

If only those were the prices today...

In my youth up north I would hear concert ticket prices on the radio --$3.30, $4.40, $5.50, $6.60 and so on. We were wondering what would happen when they got past $9.90. They went to $11.

Gulfstream Park has been torn down and rebuilt. Jimi wouldn't recognize it today.

It's still there. A law that was passed several years ago allowed all of the surviving parimutual sites (horse racing, dog tracks, jai alai, harness racing) in Florida to become casinos.

I spent $7.50 to see The Beatles, Aug. 14, 1966 at Cleveland Stadium. I guess that was big bucks back then. I remember they had 3 or 4 opening acts.

No disrespect or anything like that intended, but the one thing I've always found amazing is how can somebody who has been dead for over 40 years keep putting out new records? I wondered that over 20 years ago and it seems like it's still going on. I would think the well would have run dry a long time ago, either that or they keep repackaging the same material to make money off of his name. He must have been recording stuff 24 hours a day, every day until he died, if that wasn't the case.

According to the inflation calculator, $7.50 in 1966 would be $53.54 in today's money, if I did the thing right.

http://www.halfhill.com/inflation.html

I remember going to the drive-in movie theater when I was 14 (40 now) and getting a bucket of popcorn and a hot dog or two and using only a $5 bill. I could have been even younger than that, but I'm sure it was 14. I had an a lot older brother who provided the liquid "refreshments," much to my Mom's amusement I'm sure. Of course, he had the classic van. I'm sure many of you who came of age in the 70's or earlier know what I'm talking about. I think those things were standard issue in suburban America at the time. Heh. That and Camaros, Trans Ams, and Fire Chickens. :P

I wouldn't call them 'new' records, but recordings for fans/collectors. Jimi really did record quite a bit in the studio every chance he got, and than a lot of the later live concerts were recorded.

Four live shows will be released on DVD/Blu-ray in the next few years, 'Jimi plays Royal Albert Hall', 'Jimi plays Miami Pop Fest', 'Jimi plays Randall Island' and 'Jimi plays Atlanta Pop Fest'.

I have a copy of 'Jimi plays Atlanta Pop Fest' on VHS that was copied from a Japanese laser-disc, that I later converted to DVD. But I know that the Blu-ray version will be worth having.

I don't think I've probably have listened to everything he recorded, but so far I think my top favourite thing he did was Electric Ladyland. I loved the jammy vibe of that record. I think that's a great record to space out to.

Really? I listen to Jimi, if not at least once a day, but several times a week, and am still amazed at his recordings/technique.

I totally agree with Electric Ladyland being his best album...

I have several bootlegs of the studio outtakes, and it's amazing the time/effort Jimi put into recording EL.

The band did fifteen takes of "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" with the fifteenth take being the 'master'. It's just so interesting to me because with each take, you can hear Jimi improving his guitar part.

I can't remember the name of the song right now, but I love that one that goes into the bass solo with the delay. I believe he played bass on that one, from what I've heard or read. I like that show on VH1 Classic that went behind the scenes with that record. "Classic Albums" or something like that.

It's not because I don't want to, it's usually because of time and or economics. There is so much music I'd like to get a hold of, but it I never did. I'm always amazed at people of have collected 1000's of recordings of all kinds of stuff. I could just sit there for a month and try to absorb it all, but probably wouldn't even scratch the surface.

Oh yeah, 'The Making of Electric Ladyland' http://tinyurl.com/ct3tkco, it pretty interesting. I also have the OOP 'The Making of Electric Ladyland' interactive CD-Rom http://tinyurl.com/8x3azk6.

And, as I posted before, I know Eddie Kramer and we've talked quite a bit about Jimi.
