hey guys, most of you might not remember me but for those of you who do i'm back after a few events that kept me from heading to these forums... the events are as follows:

-rockin the heck off my new marauder;
-college (bummer);
-toured france for a week with my portuguese folk group;
-got a new acoustic;
-left my band and am currently working on a new one.

well after all that i'm getting the diy itch!!! and here's the deal, i got a humbucker pickup and a strat hss pickguard... i'm gonna go one of the two ways on this... i'm either gonna mod my marauder or start a strat build... which would be a better idea???

Well, since your Marauder already has a TRIPLE-BUCKER at the bridge and a Jazzmaster at the neck, why in the world would you want to change any of that? I think your Marauder would be a fine guitar to just leave stock as it sounds like you are getting plenty of enjoyment out of it just as it is and the current oddness of it is exactly what makes it the guitar that it is.

Strat build.

i agree with you there... though the three coils aren't put much to use but you're probably right... plus i kinda feel that this is one of those guitars that you could only mod when you have loads of them (and even so i'm guessing that in a few years these guitars are gonna be worth cash if they are ever discontinued though i'd love it if they were consideres a new shape in fenders original production)....

strat build it is... i'm thinking of buying either a squier SE strat or an old vm strat... refinishing the neck and body, changing the logo to the gold squier logo, installing new pups (hss), maybe (just maybe) put in a split coil for the humbucker, locking tuners to keep the tremolo as stable as possible ;)... it's basically your stock hss strat besides these mods... for pups i'm thinking my old jb humbucker, and two high output alnico v single coil neck and middle pups to go with that jb... what would you recomend???

I love the JB humbuckers. I also like Alnico 5 single coils. I also say Strat build.

I recently did a pickup change in my Blacktop Floyd Rose. I went with a JB in the bridge, a Tele vintage stack in the middle, and Pearly Gates humbucker in the neck, HSH. 250k pots with a push/pull switch in the volume to split the humbuckers. All I can say is that it is one of my favorite guitars to play, a total tone monster.

Ralf,

I wondered where you were. Glad your back. :D

Last time I remember you were looking for a Strat body for a build, I think?

Wow, was it a local contest or a Fender contest?

Congratulations. Everything OK.

Bought a new MIA Maple Stratocaster neck to replace the original one on my 2007 MIM Strat. I have gotten to where I do not like the more narrow spacing of MIM guitars. It's in the mail and I should get it next week.

Wonderful,

Stick with college and finish, even if it's a bummer. Do your best. You will not regret it.
