I pulled a few samples to show how the Fender Mustang III amplifier was holding up in a live concert situation.

The audio was recorded with a digital recorder which I placed off to the side of the stage, behind the band. So you hear the Mustang III good and loud, and what you're hearing is the sound out the back of the amp. My master volume was set at the high-side of '5'.

Wish I could have recorded what the audience heard .... I let the next act's guitar player use my amp and I listened out in the lobby, the Mustang III sounded amazing!

Here's the sample:

That is a good sound! It is clean and bright but doesn't have any harshness in the bite.

It is hard recording a set while you are playing live. ALL of my attempts have ended in utter failure. I think that only somebody that has tried to record on a stage with monitors would understand how good this recording really is.

What recorder did you use?

Thanks Tribrach! I didn't see this until now .... :)

The recorder is made by Olympus, I believe it's this one:

I tried putting my iPhone in the back of the auditorium and it worked fairly well but we are in a church and not playing at high volumes. Also there is a fairly secure spot on a wooden shelf that helps the acoustics.

The iPad can be great for recording too. There's an app that looks like one of those old-school vocal mic's. It gets nice stereo separation and surprising quality. The hardest part for me is getting to the back of the auditorium right before a show starts (don't want to run the batteries down recording the audience chatting) and trusting my recorder will be there when I return. I need a recording assistant!

I've played with that app to try and save disk space but didn't think it had as good of sound quality.

I'm considering one of those mics that plug in to the iPhone or iPad but don't want to spend the money.

Here's a new live recording of the Fender Mustang III, v1:

Anyone else with a Mustang have live recordings to share? I'm sure a lot of people would love to hear a Mustang v2 live demo.

I've been GASing for one of those for several months now. I made friends with the owner of the biggest local music store chain and he's willing to let it go to me for $249. Problem is that since I'm a bedroom player, my wife thinks it's an extravagant expense. She obviously doesn't understand GAS. :D

Now that the v2 is out, has the fizz issue been fixed? BTW the recording sounds great. Can't believe you had the master at a bit over 5. That amp can crank some serious volume!

Thanks 1neeto, yeah it really cranks volume - I wasn't sure about 100 watts in such a small package, but it definitely gets the job done.

The early reports on the v2 amps have been positive, people are reporting no fizz, but only a few people have been able to get their hands on one. We'll have to see with a little more time.

For 'bedroom' use, I think the MIII is a little overpowered. I find it hard to turn the volume down low enough to play late at night. It's not impossible, but takes some patience as it goes from a whisper to being too loud with the slightest movement. I never tried out an MII but that seems like a good fit for home/baby sleeping upstairs use. And they are a few $$'s cheaper...

12" Celestion speaker, included footswitch, and the LCD screen really makes the MIII much more appealing than the two!

that speaker has to account for at least half of the manufacturing costs. I found the volume can be tamed a little by using my Boss GE-7 (equalizer) pedal, it has its own volume fader so I just fine tune the volume with that for home use.

My favorite part of this amp is being able to manage my settings and presets through the computer. When I practice, I'm generally in front of the computer anyway, it works out great.

Yeah, you get so much more than the II for only 100 bucks more. Makes the MII almost irrelevant.

So to me if the III is too much I'd probably get the MI. I already have a Boss GT-6 effects processor, so the models in the mustang amps are not that necessary to me. I want it just to have everything in one package.
