Buy the acoustic kit. My mom didn't want me buying a moped. Guess what. I bought a moped on Sunday. Part of growing up is asserting your dominance over your live in prison guards. Now that I think of it, she was pretty pissed when I walked my first guitar home from my neighbor's house. "Well your birthday was 5 days away!" "Well, I didn't want to wait 5 days to play guitar."

I'm hauling that raggedy $@! moped home in my mom's van later. Maybe you've got to work on persuasiveness. Or you can take the bus to the music shop, get a small set, borrow a golf club bag for your metal bits (cymbal stands, hi hats, drum legs, etc) and then take them on the bus one at a time. Sure, it takes dedication, but if you really want something, you're willing to put in that extra effort. I had to travel to buy this thing, but it's worth well over what I payed for it, and it's wheels.

Or you find a friend with a van and search CL high and low for close deals.

No offense Buxom but you're off the mark on this one. Parents house is their rules and they should be respected. Its not your place to romp around the house doing whatever you please.
