I am a noob when it comes to playing with picks (well, I am a noob in general ) so I am on a quest to find what pics fit me best. Here's what I'm after.

-Any vintage picks, preferably 60's (I love everything from the golden age of rock)

-I heard there were rubbery Dava picks, so I would like one of those.

-Turtle shell picks

If anyone has any of these, post a comment on this thread and we will go from there. Thanks! :D

Yes real tortoise is illegal. Endangered species and all that.

However the faux tortoise used for pickguards and picks in the 60's is illegal to manufacture now for another reason, that being the high nitrocellulose content. The EPA has outlawed that nitro stuff. Good luck finding any of the relics intact as most are now very fragile and crumbly.

As usual SK (who to me will always be SUPERKID to me even when he's 30 yrs old) is correct. Try the modern STAR cut out picks made by EVERYLY. Really a good innovative product.

A favorite of mine is the Fender jumbo TRIANGLE picks. The HEAVY ones make a good bass pick too. If you break one corner you still have 2 more corners left to use.

You can get some nice old picks on fleabay. Just do a search for "vintage guitar pick".
A lot of rubbish will come up but look carefully and pick out the gems. Nothing crumbly about my pre-CBS Fender Heavys

well the old man actually has a "real" tortoise shell pick, but the paperwork to legally transfer it to you would cost more than any pick is worth
owning it is real pain in the $@! if you ask me, so don't even think about it

if you want something with a different tone all together try a stone pick. very interesting http://picksofstone.com/id157.html

Tortex .50s. Trust me, Star picks may be nice, but if you really want a hole in your pick, you can melt one. it's fairly easy.

Stew Mac sells nitro finish for guitars and GHS sells new nitro picks.
