As most, I bought a cheap amp stand and I was worried about marring the amp sitting on steel. Another thing I was thinking about, was vibration isolation. I live on the 3rd floor and I am hoping that I could isolate the vibrations from transferring from the stand, through the floor and on to some unlucky downstairs neighbor that probably wouldn't like my rendition of "Stairway to Gilligans Island.

Foam?

No. With the weight of the amp, it would take a permanent set and break down eventually.

Balsa wood can be purchased at any decent hobby store. Just glue it to your cheap amp stand, and your good to go!

Actually, there are a number of new denser foams in weatherstripping kits that aren't at all like the old open-cell black foam of the old days. I have used a number of these and while they may crush eventually if you never move the amp, they don't break down. You can usually get them in thicknesses up to 5/8" and up to a good 1" wide, too.
