Wow,that's one tough way to spend a holiday,my heart goes out to you.You should certainly contact the organizers and demand at least a partial refund.Although they can try to take the "Act Of God" argument, there was a certain amount of "Acts of Stupidity" by Festival organizers and staff. They should take at the very least, some responsibility for the planning, firstly they should've known better than to put a campsite on low ground in an area that has frequent heavy rains, they also should've anticipated a huge influx of motor vehicles and consequently provided ample parking near the venue on dry, level ground rather than leaving festival goers to avail of parking made available by unscrupulous, profiteering landowners in the general area of the festival.

A lot of your misfortune was directly due to their lack of foresight and planning so to be totally fair they should own some of the responsibility for your misfortune and as a form of apology they should refund a good sized chunk of your losses.

BTW: Every summer we have the Grand Falls-Windsor Salmon Festival where they bring in top class famous rock acts to an outdoor venue.Promoters of the GF-W Festival always go into every fine detail and have all bases covered in case something unexpected goes wrong. They even have the main stage, audience area,campsites,Porta-Potties,campsites and concessions stands on the highest ground in the area so they won't be swamped and flooded in case of rain.Maybe the Isle of Wight Festival promotors should get in touch with the promoters of the GF-W Salmon Festival for a few pointers on having a failsafe concert. They obviously haven't learned their lesson all these years after the disasterous 1970 Festival when Jimi played in the rain and cold plagued by gear breakdowns due to a flooded stage shorting out just about everything electrical during his entire performance.

Sad to hear of your misadventures just trying to catch some music and fun.
But I've had to camp in the mud too much in my past to ever endure something like that for the helluv-it,...no more for me.
I'm glad y'all made it safely back home!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. :)

On the same day that I posted this, I also sent a copy by email to Ticketzone who were responsible for selling the tickets. I got a reply from Ticketzone customer service last Saturday morning saying that they had opened a case. Whoever read my mail didn't read it properly and said "so it looks like you didn't make it to the Festival". They then asked for the codes which were on our wristbands to verify this. I had to correct them and tell them that we had made it onsite and that there was no camping spaces available even though we had paid €650 for Concert and camping tickets. I also sent them a copy of the email confirmation that I got when I booked the family camping. This had a bar code on it and if they were scanning people for this on the day they will see that I didn't make it as none of the staff knew where it was. I also told them that myself and my wife threw away our wristbands but I was able to give them the code for my son's who kept his.

Last night, I got another mail from Ticketzone customer service saying that I would hear back from them in the next 14 days on my case. I restated that the issue at the heart of this whole incident was the lack of camping which had forced us to leave. Also, last Tuesday I went on National radio to talk about my experience. I also put the link to the podcast of the radio interview on the email.

Here is the link to the podcast: http://www.rte.ie/radio/radioplayer/rte ... type=share

I'm still not very hopeful of getting a refund but I have to try.

Hi again torresfan: in case you're still watching this thread, a friend just told me he heard on radio news that in view of the exceptional mess of this year's festival the Isle of Wight organisers are giving full refunds to those, such as yourself, who couldn't even get into the event.

How that works if you bought your package through a ticket agency I don't know, but it sounds like it would be well worth your while to pursue the matter. I expect your travel expenses are lost, unless you took out insurance, but you may well get the rest back.

Good luck - C
