Is there a particular key that just moves you more than any other? That songs just sound better in? For me it's Bm. I have no idea why, but that key (and chord) just sound incredible to me. I've heard a few covers transposed into Bm from the original and the cover blows the original away. Does anybody else have the same inexplicable connection with a particular key or am I just weird?

There is something special with the E I think.

You don't even have to switch to another chord when playing the E right? ;)

The fretboard.
Keys just limit your creativity. Whose to say playing out of key sounds bad?

Here's another microtonal example. A retuned piano blues piece:

Does any one have a favorite key?

I did until I heard them clatter off my car roof at 65mph on Rt 4 heading to Wakefield Saturday night and spent waiting until 4am to be safe enough to look for them..
Found them... or at least what was left of the key chain, remote...gone...Yakima rack key..Gone...Wife's Toyota key...Gone...House key...Gone....Ford Key..only one left....   .... Cost to replace.. :?: $180.00 ....

Actually Minor Key based melodic passages juxtaposed over Major Chords work well for me. :)

A lot of my music is based in either E or A.

for some reason I naturally lean toward C, its mostly because that's the key I can half $@! sing in and feel comfortable  so its the scale I know the best.

I'd have to go with D Minor, the saddest of all keys...

I like A and G, but thats because I can only sing in those keys. If it is an instrumental, I like D...it just sounds so bluesy.

Hi Brian: far as fingering is concerned naturally some keys are more convenient than others. But far as sound goes, no. I have good pitch but not perfect, so I probably couldn't tell whether a song was in D, E or F just by hearing it.

I do have a strange fondness for Dm, but that's just because several of the numbers I first learned happen to be in that key. I suspect it reflects the tastes of a couple of the players I like rather than my own.

Still. I'm very interested in the idea that some people do find a particular key intrinsically more moving than others. It's a notion that has been dividing musicians down the ages.

Cheers - C
