I was worried that my bridge was too high, it is approximately 1cm from the base of the guitar. Is that too high? If so, how can i adjust that on a fender squier california series stratocaster?

Mine is floating about 1/4" so you don't have to worry. I have an old Fender Squier from the 90's that isn't floating at all. The bridge lays on the body. I use that guitar for drop-D tuning. If you don't use the vibrato bar, I suggest you tighten the claw so the bridge sits on the body, without floating. It will stay in tune better for you. Yoou can still use the whammy, buy it will be a little tighter.

This is personal preference, so if you like it, it is fine. However, both of your bridges are out of spec, and I would dare say.....too high! Factory spec is about 1/8th inches. I find that with a stock floating bridge, any bend will make the open strings go flat, out of tune. On single note bends this is of no concern. But on unison bends, this sounds terrible.
You can adjust the height of the bridge by removing the rear cover plate, and tightening the 2 claw screws, or loosening them. There is a fine balance point between your string gauge when tuned to pitch, and the distance your bridge will float, so you will likely be retuning often while making small adjustments to get the bridge where you want. Again...both of your bridges are out of spec, but that doesn't mean it is "wrong". Worst case is your tuning isn't stable, and your intonation will go to crap LOL. :D

Good post Steve. I was surprised at how loosey goosey my bridge was when I bought my Strat. I had to screw the spring claw a lot more than I thought I would to keep the open strings from going flat when bending. My bridge is now much lower than I expected it would be compared to the way it was in the store.
