I suppose sort of Avant-Garde-Indie-Post-Whatever, 20th Century Orchestral music, Alt-Folk and Anti-Folk.

Or whatever's going really.

I love the music I grew up with in the '60s and '70s and I feel very fortunate to have lived in those times . . . but I've heard all the songs on the Classic Rock station 100s and 100s of times. And the oldies station -- I heard a lot of those songs a 1000+ times -- because I heard them all for the first time when they were new. I just want something different.

I love most genres of music, especially British Invasion,60s and 70s rock and blues. I also love mediaeval, baroque and classical music.I love East Indian music, especially sitar music by Ravi Shankar.I like Bill Munroe style Bluegrass and old style country music. I find the new "pop/country" impossible to take to as well as the mass produced bland, tasteless, drivel that's bombarding the radio waves disguised as "Top 40" these days.It would have been easier maybe to list what I dont like rather than what I like.I can't for the life of me take to rap or hip-hop or metal especially thrash and death metal.

I love most music. But my favorite is Jazz in all of its shapes and forms. If I had to pick my favorite type of Jazz, though, I would pick Bossa Nova. I also listen to a lot of Blues and Rock.

kinda this, I haven't heard enough mediaeval or baroque music to say I like it though.I do really really like reggae.

Baroque is IMO the all-time low point of music. It was basically just everyone trying to be more complex than the everyone else, it ended up with some really poorly structured pieces. Sure, every instrument in the orchestra is doing something obscenely complicated, but none of it fits together particularly well and ultimately it's just incredibly bland and uninspired.

Medieval is good for what it is, though I'm a bit turned off by it because it's mostly just religious works and polyphony was a brand new concept. The direct result of this being, that monophony was still the standard for a lot of the composers, and those trying polyphony were doing exactly that; trying it. It wasn't some worked out thing, it was still developing, and if you're used to modern concepts of harmony and go in with that mindset, you will be incredibly disappointed. It's not something I can necessarily listen to for enjoyment, however it can be an interesting listen to take a look at musical history and development/evolution.

That's not really fair. Obviously the Baroque period has examples of some of the worst music ever(Pachelbel's Cannon and Handel's Messiah), but a lot of it is great. I don't think the thing about complexity is true, but a lot of composers used lots of fugues and counterpoint, which gets pretty dense in a lot of pieces.

Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Bach's Organworks are great.

I'll have to agree on Vivaldi and Bach. They're just about the only Baroque composers that don't make me want to put a bullet through my skull.

I think music is both good and bad in most genres, and happen to like the good pieces. But what I prefer - is piano jazz (Erroll Garner) , West coast/countryrock , early progrock (and some more recent -Dream Theater etc) And some rock with a sting in it , like 'new' wave and grunge . Also some blues -mainly the more 'rocky' things. $@!& ! I could go on and on. But dislike newer r'n'b , hip hop , musicals & opera :-P- and death-metal
