Computer storage is very cheap right now so if
you're looking to add some space to store audio
graphics, etc, right now is a good time.

I got a couple of Western Digital 750GB externals
with 3.0 USB for $67 each!

Also picked up a 32GB Sandisk flash drive for $15!

Hard drives were cheaper before the natural disaster in Thailand. 1 GB internals were trending down to about $89. They've settled down a little bit, but the "double the drive size every 2 years for the same amount of money" equation is out the window.

Yup...isn't technology wonderful?

I have a magnetic disk drive from the 80's with (4) 12" platters. Total size of the disk? 350MB. That's MegaBytes not GigaBytes.

Truly amazing to see how things get smaller physically but with capabilities never dreamed of just 20 years ago!

I work at the IT racket and I have had several external hard drives fail over the past 3 years. For my pictures and personal information, I still burn to a dvd or cd. They can be safely stored in a drawer and the information retrieved easily.

I use solid state drives for any important data, and they are way faster in a computer.

Implants

I think it will be a neural interface

but with Bluetooth technology, implants aren't far off anyways. if one of those could be powered by the electricity generated in our body's it would be handy. imagine you just wiggle your ear to answer calls

The first pc based hard drive I remember attached to an 8086 IBM pc, was 10 mb and cost about $2,500. Of course, back then Bill Gates told us all 640k memory was all any body would ever need.
But I wonder what anyone would fill up a terbyte drive with at home unless they had some sort of a home based business.

I just don't see the utility in ripping every cd I own, and certainly not dvd's / blu rays.

If I want some background music cable or radio works great.
If I want to sit down and really listen to some music cd's work great.
I seldon watch a movie or concert dvd / blu ray more than once, maybe a concert once a year or so, so no need to rip those.

I don't use itunes, probably would and would store on a hard drive if it was available at greater than standard cd quality / red book / 16/44.

But I'm still old school. I like technology but will only use it if is better, cheaper or easier way to do something.

Music and increasingly Photos.
Not that I'm ripping all of my CDs (only collectible ones) but I have a few thousand LPs, many of which were never issued on CD so...

And lots of stuff I learn on Guitar Forums!! Would probably be simpler if I could have access to copy the db every few months.
