I'm not talking about the performance itself, I'm talking about the production of the performance. The cameras, lighting, microphones, etc. What made these performances stand out from the loads of other performances, considering most of the cameras back then could get fairly grainy.

Honestly, if I had never heard of them, and I saw this performance, I'd probably think it was recorded 10 years ago or less. (minus the ridiculously dressed people that walk backstage in the middle of it, it's pretty modern feeling, I guess)

Also, Joey does some weird dance moves. I've never seen a man's legs defy physics like that. I'd compare it to Michael Jackson, tbh.

Don't have to be into them. Just observe the video quality. It's mind-blowing for the time. Most performances I've looked up were pretty grainy. This is the best overall.

I prefer this recording from 1968...fourteen years earlier. Nice plummy, over the top BBC voiceover, pretty good band too 8) Looks like they knew more than one chord as well...

One can't deny that this video, ignore the narrative, shows many styles of modern day vidiography with the short shots, zooms and hand held camera shake.

I'm sure there are many examples of videos through the past decades that stand out amongst others as being exceptional for their time. Keep them coming. I'm enjoying this.

Well, thank you! I liked the commentary for it's Spinal Tap qualities :)
Here's another one from Roy Orbison and friends from 1987...check out James Burton's guitar solo, hand held camera effects and stunning use of black and white...

Not sure if this is fantastic quality filming, but the editing is awesome. The guitar playing isn't too shabby either....
