I was thinking that Sub-Par Sound would be a good band name, but apparantly it's taken:

Hey Buxom.

I'm with asgeirman........get yourself a band. I think then, you might get some of what hou-tex was saying. I don't think it sucks at all but the high end and the distortion, without bass and drums make it very harsh...........I am sitting here at half 2 in the morning so have my headphones in....... I almost $@!& myself when it started....lol

If you are playing that style, roll off the treble a bit.....even if you roll back the tone on your guitar even it will strike a slightly sweeter tone.............

Of course that's just an opinion and if you like what you did and that's the tone you are after, then my friend you are doing it right!! 8)

I can't roll back the tone atm. It makes my weak single coil sound really blunt. I'm still waiting to get the new pickups from Niki in the mail. I'd roll back the V and T for a weaker sound on my neck, cause it was an HB, but it died, so I have to go full to get anything decent at all. (I like to not have to mess with my amp as much as my guitar, it really lets me put more consistency in my sound, but a pickup dying is a serious variable, especially a pickup as nice as that.)

WHat is your set up? (apologies if you've posted that elsewhere)

A dead pickup sucks...........what is Niki sending you?

ANd is your single coil really 'weak' or is that just in comparison to the HB.........?

If you are getting pups from Niki it may be a pointless exercise but if you are unhappy with the tone of your SC you can adjust the height of it and it will achieve many different tones...........lower the treble side and you will lose some of the harshness.....if you are using an effects pedal you could roll off some of the high end with the gain/tone/treble knob on that too. ALso with your amp, I know what you mean about messing with the settings but whilst you are having pup issues, take a little time to mess with the EQ settings on the amp....remember new pickups need quite a bit of tweaking from all variables to get the right sound.......it takes me hours sometimes to find the sound I want for a specific guitar through a certain amp.......... 8)

Get a band. You've got a very distinct sound. I like your recordings, raw and simple. Keep in mind theirs always gonna be someone with a whole different view on music and will say your music is terrible. Music is all about opinions. If playing clean, jazz, or blues, or reggae isn't you, then dont play it. Simple. If playing hard, fast, raw catchy stuff is you, then play it.

I think the dude who said your music 'sucks' needs to learn the meaning of 'being yourself' not what the majority say.

Fender Telecaster, Peavey Envoy 110. No effects.

If I remember correctly, it was some Jackson pickups.

It's just much less flexible in terms of tone possibilities. I use it when I want to be really blunt (Like playing Doyle era Misfits, Helena, Descending Angel, etc)

I just had a vintage Epi hb and it was great.
I've tried adjusting my height and knobs and such, but it does me no good, I'm just specific with my tones. My thing is, crank the amp, adjust from the guitar. (so i can quickly change tones if need be) for SC it's usually V:9 T:10 and for HB it's usually V:7 T:3 (it gives it a weak sound with a slight edge, it's sort of a limbo between clean and dirty. Basically, if you play light enough, it can sound clean, but if you go hard, it's dirty, but not too dirty, I'll try to find an example)

Ahh, thanks Riley, but I'll let him hold his opinion. He has a right to it. And thank you for enjoying my recordings so much. It's just bar and power chords. No special anything :D

Also, pappa, the Envoy 110 is one of the Made In The U.S.A 1980s models.

I guess this is the best example, there's feedback from the line in still, but it sounds a bit better.

Hey, like I said mate, if that's the tone you're after then you're doing it right!!!! 8)

If it's just a laptop you are recording with and your amp volume is set to thet then that will explain the harshness I hear in the recording.

I echo what has been said already, your raw edginess comes through in abundance and that is a reflection of who you are, don't let anyone tell you its wrong.....(I am not saying it's wrong btw either just in case I come across as that....only offering advice)

The jackson pickups will probably sound really quite different to wwhat you have been using so that will take time to get your head around.

Maybe consider a sc rails pickup or stacked HB n the bridge position too.....could give you the double HB sound which might suit your style

Whatever you do with it though keep doing it!!

I wanna keep the single, for when want those blunt sounds.

But thanks for all the encouragement, advice, and thanks for listening.

And I've been trying to get a band together, the drummer I was going to jam with had a death in his family, so he was out of town for a bit sorting that out. This cashier at Walmart plays bass apparently, so I might try to work with him. It's just been rough. And if I can find a guitarist that shares a similar idea of what playing is as me, I might drop guitar in a band setting and focus on singing (if not, I'll do both) If not, maybe I'll meet some cool people in summer school :D

I don't know, there's always some form of optimism with me.

(Drummer's Soundcloud, for those who want to know who I could be working with. http://soundcloud.com/m-t-l-dr-m )
