So everyone has one, some like them thick, some like them soft, some like them orange, some like them black, some don't use them at all.

I like 'em green and bendy in the middle:

So what do you use then?

I made it myself, out of aluminum. .72mm thick, pretty much the same as the plastic ones I use. This has a nice metallic edge to the sound. I made several other, this is my favorite:

I prefer the Jim Dunlop Jazztones 208's w/ Gorilla Snot these days. This surprised me. I was a heavy teardrop lover all of my life and thought there was no way a large, fat pick would be as fast and nimble and accurate as a pointy teardrop pick! Man, was I wrong. The 208 turned out to be #1 for all picking techniques, all styles, on all guitars! The 208 tips wear very, very, very slowly too whereas I can take the tip off of most picks with one good shred. ...I love the smell of burnt plastic.

My main plectrum is this large thick tortoiseshell which I made myself out of a small antique hand mirror.

Image

The sale of tortoiseshell products is illegal in most civilized countries.
IN NO WAY DO I CONDONE THE SLAUGHTER OF THESE BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. (Hawksbll Turtle).

If you don't want to spend $50 on a pre-ban vintage pick, you can often find objects in garage sales if you know the difference between celluloid and shell, and make your own. I recently found this 60s era belt buckle.

Image

You're probably better off making do with the next best thing though (Wegan,V-pick,Red Bear etc)

Curious, is the point of the hole in the pick for grip? Because I melted a hole in a pick and it works well.

I've used the Dunlop .73 mm grey Nylon pick ever since they first came out,I've tried many others but the .73 nylons still beat the others for comfort and allow for accurate flat picking and any other lead work.
