May want to use that app again to see if it can root out the remaining issue.

Yeah i ran it again today and it says it didn't find anything.

This is making me wonder about what one of the guys said about all these security suites; they seem to cause more headaches than they cure.

This warning that comes up is a fake warning. It looks as if it comes from my security and says there's a problem and when i click on my security icon on the low right side of the PC screen my security (or what looks like it!) is in warning red telling me there's issues. It's a scam because then if i hit the button to sort out what they say is wrong nothing happens  Then if i reboot the PC and start a new session everything looks fine and the security icon that previously had a exclamation mark over it is completely normal and tells me everything is cool and potected

Yes, things are probably fine but you do have a registry item that is forcing that pop-up.

Just don't click it.

Go to your AV Security website and look for info on malware removal tools for the specific issue you are seeing. Might have something there.

Well after a few days of working perfectly the $@!& has hit the fan again  What happened? well i got that note you get on your screen saying there was a windows update to download, which i ignored because it's these updates that seem to be causing me all this grief. It was the adobe update before. So i ignore this one but on logging off and starting up again it downloaded automatically. Shortly after it downloaded all the problems with these stupid pop up's started happening again!

My question is this: how is it possible that these pop up things and problems manage to get into your PC on the coat tails of a necessary legitamite upload to say microsoft windows or adobe? These are all genuine above board updates that you need to download, how do these hackers manage to attach these things to your updates? So every time i get an update now i don't want to download it because i know i'm gonna get all this $@!& again

Computers are a nightmare., it makes me want to grab it and smash it off the wall into a thousand pieces.

If you're frustrated enough, you can send it my way. I've been working for a repair shop for 2 years now.

Or if you don't want to send it all those miles, find a local repair shop with only a couple geeks working there. They typically have more certifications and can do a better job than a big company (Best Buy, Staples, Geek Squad, etc.) They're also usually a third of the cost of one of these companies.

But really, the only advice I can offer other than that, is to use the programs I would use if I ever got one. (mainly because I don't have the computer in front of me and can't see what it's doing)

And get Avast or AVG security. They're both great.

Well, I mean, you could always wipe it, or if it's newer, use the recovery partition. (not saving anything)

Start up, F8, "Repair my computer", "Restore to factory settings" let it run for like 2 hours and then configure everything to your liking, remove bloatware.

The answer is that they do not come thru legitimate routes of updating Microsoft and/or Adobe.

It came in an email that had a file you opened or web site you went to that you clicked on and download or opened a graphic or file on.

Stay away from sites that claim free software or free pc tune ups or free scans of your pc for any reason. Many of these sites are scams to get into your system to drop in trojan horse type malware.

If you have the original cds that came with your system, reinstall the OS and begin rebuilding your system.
Painful to be sure but unless you know someone with some IT experience who can help, this may be your only option besides paying someone.

What i did was i reset the system to a day ago to when it was working well. You know the bit where you can go into system tools and hit system restore? that's what i did to reset it and it runs for a while until the next upload disaster!

These downloads look totally legit on the screen when they flash up, it's in exactly the place that always notifies me of microsoft uploads, so they look genuine, completely. After the download completes that's when the trouble starts.

Ok problems last night with this system and i took the step of removing the Firefox browser from the system and going back to Internet Explorer. Immediately it seems to have helped and (fingers crossed) so far i haven't had any problems.

Ever since i began using Firefox it's been problematic. It would crash on a regular basis and i have no idea why. The problems i've been having lately seem to be an extension of that.

Have any of you guys had problems or issues with bugs when you use a specific browser? Basically firefox has never worked well for me. I kept it because there were a couple of things i really liked about it but the problem got so bad i had to make a change

+1, I run AVG because it's free and gets the job done. You might have to dig around on their website for the free version, but it's there. That plus SpyBot S&D and Housecall have been all I've needed for quite some time.

Oh and it doesn't hurt to have one of these, but they are 'spensive:

In a standard repair, the only reason I'd use AVG over Avast is for Vista. Avast causes Vista to glitch a lot. AVG is great though. The main advantage it has over Avast is that it has a few extra features, but Avast has it beat for complete simplicity (so I kinda stuck with that)

Well since removing firefox from my system and going back to IE i haven't had any real problems (so far) no pop up's and all that nonsense.

What would cause those problems with firefox but then when you change browsers it all disappears? :?

It's called "Browser Hijacking" which writes over "helper objects" in the Registry that affects browsers.

Microsoft has a good explanation here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-se ... cking.aspx

You may want to check with Firefox to see what procedures they may have to remedy your problem.

Thanks tyronne, that's an informative read there. How do they manage to hijack your browser? This is what makes you uneasy about having any personal details on your PC; if the browser can be hijacked as easily as that :( Not good
