hi guys , some great tales and i'm really envious that some of you saw the mothers in one of their many incarnations , if only i was much older  , anyways , i saw frank on his last tour in 88 , broadway the hardway , it's still my number 1 gig of all time and i've been to a few in my time , last year Alana and me went to the Zappa plays Zappa show in Edinburgh , now that was another great gig , and Dweezil can play a mean guitar , if you haven't seen them check them out people :D
Gary , you'r lucky to have that book mate , anytime one comes up on the bay i always get outbid and it's not often one comes up for sale which might be just as well as i would need to relearn musical notation again (i taught myself back in my teens) and Gary if you'r intrested they have brought out tab books for , Hot Rats (immense) , Apostrophe! , Overnight sensation and One Size Fits all , and here's hoping that some more will be realesed in the near future , if you want a loan of any gimme a shout mate .
My nephew was up at the weekend for his guitar lesson , his dads a big Zappa fan so he knows a lot of his songs , so i showed how to play Camarillo Brillo which he picked up in no time ( great for shifting major and minor chord shapes ) when he got home he had to show his dad how to play it
Derek , i still wonder how they did that as well , i know they rehersed for a month , 8 hours a day , before a tour , but some of the stuff they could pull off is mind boggling and one of my faves from 200 Motels is magic fingers , that can get the old fingers and brain a bit confused

I can't listen to Zappa without getting a head ache.

I'm not joking. I appreciate the technical aspects of his music but I absolutely can't listen to it.

I'm learning the main riff to 'Five Five Five' from the Shut up albums. It's a crazy ditty! sounds something like a road drill constantly pounding your ears with some dissonance added in for flavour  all in an odd time sig as well :P

As far as Zappa videos go, I'd throw my vote in for Baby Snakes. For the Mothers, I'd say 200 Motels.
I saw Frank many times, and ZPZ 3 times so far. The amount of work Dweezil is putting into reproducing his dad's music is something I deeply appreciate.
GP has a good interview with the Dweez this last issue.
